Lip fillers - Am I having an early mid-life crisis?

Tongue in cheek title.

I'm in my early 30s and although I adore makeup, as a self-employed mum of two, it's a very rare occasion that I get to wear it now.

With the latest trend for big lips, enhanced by lip fillers, initially I was a bit Hmm "They look a bit odd" but it's creeped into my brain and I'm now toying with them. Even though I'm the lowest maintenance person going.

I can't work out if I just like the look of them because of all the pretty girls I see in various make up boards I'm on or if it's something that I could genuinely get away with.

Think my husband and family would think I was utterly insane.

Thoughts? Anybody got them?

I think done badly and obviously they look a bit too 'kardashian' to me but if you have really thin lips and plumbing them out would boost your confidence then why not? That said, you say you don't really wear make up much so you might be able to just play around with make up to get the same effect?

Truckingonandon · 19/08/2018 07:14

They never make anyone look better - they just make someone look like they've had their lips done.

BitOfFun · 19/08/2018 07:15

Just don't. They never make anyone look better.

I think it’s quite full on as these things go. As you’re a low maintenance person, which I take to mean you don’t wear much makeup, will you like it when you’ve had it done?

I associate it with women who wear a lot of makeup and look really fake.

littleblueworm · 19/08/2018 07:17

I think my brain is just having that thing where fashion is changing my perspective. After years of wearing big, baggy trousers as a teenager skinny jeans came in and I thought they looked ridiculous. Now it's all o wear and the recent trend for flares coming back looks odd in my opinion.

I'll definitely have a play with makeup. I think my husband would have a meltdown if I dropped £100s on getting fillers when we were meant to be saving for house renovations Grin

Honestly, it would make you look like a desperado.

If there's one good thing that comes with getting older, it's not giving a shit what other people think of you. Don't expose yourself to looking like you want to conform.

cupcakesandglitter · 19/08/2018 07:40

Sorry I'm going to go on a whim here and disagree with everyone... they certainly do not look fake on everyone, in fact more people end up going back several times because it's not massively obvious! I treated my mum to hers and she looks fantastic!! Her confidence is through the roof! She never wears makeup, but feels happier now than before.

I got mine done after researching and properly choosing where I wanted to go and what product I wanted, and I couldn't be happier. No one has noticed but it has done a lot for my confidence.

I think if it's what you want and it makes you happy, why not x

Go to a doctor not a beauty salon or dentist. If it's not done in the right place, you get that duck or obviously overfilled look that doesn't look fuller and more attractive, just clearly filled.

princesstiasmum · 19/08/2018 10:28

Lip fillers do not always look bad, if they do they have been overfilled, you can have just a little filler to make them look better if you have thin lips,, and it lifts the lips a bit,

HappyStripper · 19/08/2018 11:32

They really can look perfectly good and natural, just like you have full lips. Working in a strip club you see the whole range of cosmetic procedures and I’ve only once or twice seen the stereotypical overdone filled lips, most I didn’t even know they had had anything done, just looked like they all had exceptionally nice lips and they actually often managed to put less make up on as they already had lips/brows/lashes professionally done so looked like they were just naturally stunning instead of being caked in make up.

hannnnnnnxo · 19/08/2018 11:43

I don’t think the procedure is that serious in all honesty. Very simple aftercare/healing, and it’s only temporary after all. Ignore all the hysterical posters above stating that ‘everyone’ will look awful!

I have had lip fillers 3 times, no one notices that I have had them done. From family, to friends to colleagues or absolute randoms. They look natural and not overfilled, at all.

But they do look better and I feel more confident about myself. My bottom lip is naturally much larger than my top lip (drastically different). I get my top lip balanced with my bottom lip, and get a bit of filler in the sides of my bottom lip for volume. Essentially I just have wider lips, more symmetrical lips and a more pouty appearance. But my lips do still look like mine, I still have my Cupid’s bow, and best of all my top lip doesn’t completely disappear when I smile anymore.
