Are neoprene wellies too warm for all year round?

Am dithering between the various Aigles Parcours at the moment.

There's the Iso, which are neoprene and toasty warm.

The Vario which are identical but with polyester lining so no particular warmth.

And the Outlast, which are meant to have some special temperature regulating lining which keeps you cool in summer but warm in winter (more expensive, could be total bollocks)

I don't have cold feet or circulatory issues but I do live in a wet stormy muddy rural area where it rains all year round. Rarely much snow, well one week last winter but I just wore my leather sheepskin ankle boots tbh.

Anyone wear neoprene all year round? Will I have sweaty feet?

I have Aigle Neoprene wellies and they are fantastic in the winter, well worth every penny. I have worn them a few times through the summer and they're ok with very thin socks and leggings. I wouldn't want to wear them for too long or with anything warm underneath but definitely worth it for the winter benefits.

I wear jeans in the summer typically, would they be sweaty over jeans?

Today I went on a massive muddy walks through woods and I definitely needed wellies as we all got splashed with mud but it was quite humid. So even in August I need wellies it seems.

You'd probably be quite warm in jeans. I can wear mine for about 30 minutes before my legs get really hot in the summer. Can you afford a cheaper pair for summer wear?
I worked out what size I needed and picked up my Aigles for £70 on Amazon this time last year. As long as you aren't too fussy on colour then you can get them for a lot less than anywhere else.

JuniperBeer · 19/08/2018 08:57

Yes. I have the Iso. Unbearable in anything over 15.c.

However absolutely incredible in autumn/ winter. The footbed is so supportive. You just wear them with normal socks. They were v good in the snow last year but I wear them daily in the winter to tramp across fields and woods, ankle deep in mud in some places.
Get them. And get a summer pair of wellies!!

I only want to get one pair, and cheap wellies make my feet cry. I really appreciate the feedback, it's as I suspected, I would be a sweaty Betty.

I think I'll get the Parcours Vario then, which don't have any neoprene so they supposedly have the comfy footbed without the winter warmth. I can always just wear thermal socks. Tbh my feet are never that horrendously cold anyway.

I don't care about colour so am googling for cheap deals at the moment. Amazon seems best at first glance.

A bit nervous dropping that much money on wellies! I really hope they last 8/9 years for the price!

I’ve had mine 7 years and they honestly look brand new.

ElspethFlashman · 20/08/2018 11:04

Thanks, I'm excited! Ive put an alert on camelcamelcamel as I know the price fluctuates a lot on Amazon.

Of course just as I'd decided against neoprene my DH says to buy the neoprene ones as I'd wear them 10 times more in the colder months than in the summer. Which is true. So now I'm dithering again! Confused

I've got a pair of Le Chameau neoprenes which I wear year round (muddy, floody county) - they're so warm in winter, and not too bad in summer. To be honest, when it's very hot here, it's dry so I don't need wellies anyway. But in the winter, the neoprene/plastic zip is just amazing. No frozen toes, no hopping around trying to ram my foot in a boot while wrapping my jeans round my ankle to stuff everything in...

ElspethFlashman · 20/08/2018 11:50

Well that's supposedly one of the negatives to the Parcours Iso/Vario ones - massive suction when pulling your foot out as they don't have a full zip.

I can live with that though as the reviews are so good.

I have le chameau neoprenes which i have had for 10 + years. I now live in Australia and still wear them alot. I vote neoprene 😁

ElspethFlashman · 04/09/2018 16:49

Got the neoprene! Very impressed, they feel like trainers! Incredibly soft and supple.

Also they fit on my rugby players calves! (Nothing does)

I put an Amazon alert for them on camelcamelcamel and got them half price. The price seems to fluctuate a hell of a lot, so never buy full price is my advice.

I also have the neoprene la chemeau’s and find them way too hot for all but the coldest of winters, which we don’t really get Grin
But they’re tolerable with thin tights/leggings.
They’re very comfy but I only wear them a handful of times a year, I’m not a big welly wearer!

XingMing · 04/09/2018 20:54

I think my current wellies are Aigles but the last were le Chameau and I wore them for seven years, maybe eight. Then the rubber uppers perished a bit, so they were replaced. For me it tends to be about the grip; this is a hilly part of the country so it needs to last. And I like to have warm dry feet, and don't sweat heavily. I wouldn't go bonkers and buy DuBarry's for my life. I don't want a £XXX pair of wellies.
