GHD curling wands?

I can’t decide between the classic wave wand and the creative wand (the one that tapers slightly). At £120 I don’t want to regret my decision Star

I made this decision a few months ago! I suppose it depends what kind of result you are looking for. I can't speak for the Classic Wave wand but I have the Creative Curl wand & I absolutely love it! It gives me really lovely curls that stay in for 3/4 days, & can be lightly brushed out for a softer look. Just for reference my hair reaches the base of my back at its longest point.

I used to have a Babyliss wand which produced very corkscrew-type curls which I would have to try & separate & relax out a bit with my fingers, & always left me with what felt like a birds nest at the nape of my neck. I have neither of these problems with the GHD. I can curl it & then just leave it, I don't feel I have to mess around with the curls to make them sit nicely.

One thing which helped my decision between the GHDs was going to a local hair salon & having my hair curled with the Creative Curl wand, I loved the result. My sister had hers done with the other wand and it had fallen out by the evening. Granted we have different hair but still! I also looked on YouTube for videos to see the resulting hair from each wand.

I was lucky in that I didn't have to pay full price for mine, but I absolutely would having tried them, & will definitely replace them if they break! No regrets!

I have the creative curl wand. All I manage to achieve with it is slightly wavy hair in random places where it sometimes takes and sometimes doesn’t.

Oh and some burns on my hands Blush

I must be doing it wrong.

@LooksLikeImStuckHere I have found there is a real knack to it, I've had A LOT of practise!! When I first got my Babyliss wand I'd picked it up for a special event that evening, I'd never tried a wand before & hadn't looked up how to use it. I wound my hair round the wand & then let it go, & of course I was just left with ever so slightly wavy hair in random places! I was so disappointed with the result, I didn't touch it again for ages.

I am by no means a professional, but here is what I do:

•Section my hair depending on how I want it to look; the smaller the section the tighter & more defined the curl
•Spray on heat protector
•Wind the hair round the wand & hold it there for 8-10 seconds (my hairdresser managed the same effect with only holding it for 4-5 seconds, but I haven't been able to do that!)
•While the hair is still round the wand I then put my hand round the hair & pull the wand out so the hair remains in the same position as if the wand was still there. I then hold the hair until it cools before letting go. You can clip it while it cools instead of holding it to save time but I can't get the hang of it!!

Hope that makes sense & doesn't seem patronising!! I just thought that I used to not be able to do it either, & £120 is a lot of money if you're not getting the results you want, so hope it helps a bit.

Oh, & I always wear a protective glove to do it!! I need to find some more effective ones though.

Lemonylem · 18/08/2018 07:23

I've always curled my hair using my normal GHD straighteners! I've only recently discovered there are special wands now! Is it worth having both if you already have straighteners or are the wands much more effective?

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 18/08/2018 07:35

Thank you Kate! I will try those tips Smile

Tryingagain1 · 18/08/2018 12:45

Oh I'd really like to know if the ghd are good too! And which one Smile

Chicinwellies · 25/08/2018 23:08

Tryingagain I know, I’m keen to know if they’re worth it too
