I’ve put on weight - help me dress! Nothing fits.

So I have piled on the weight following depression/ medication/ perimenopause /pigging out. I am trying to resolve this but in the meanwhile..... I have got up from dress size 12to 16 . My body shape has changed, I was big before but had a slim waist and big hips, legs etc. Now I just have a big tummy and I’m the same everyone else.

So nothing fits, I look awful BUT I don’t want to spent loads as I am trying really hard to lose the weight.

I need ideas/links for slimming, flattering, cost effective clothes. I work from home so mainly require casual, comfy clothes. Sometimes I have meetings etc so I need a couple of smarter outfits.

I am 5’7, early forties.

Please help me to dress myself! Links for flattering clothes that are not crazy prices much appreciated.

TIA

Following with interest. I’ve piled on 20lbs this year for similar reasons to you and gone up from a 12 to 14. Nothing fits!

I’m addressing the diet and exercise thing, so going to lose the weight soon, but it’s so depressing not being able to wear most things in my wardrobe.

I’ve bought a few size 14 things from eBay to see me through, but have had to change my style. I like pencil dresses and stuff that fits at the waist normally (also hourglass) but my new belly makes me more an apple, so I’ve gone for a few dresses with drapey/ruched/wrap fronts to avoid fabric clinging to my rolls. Also bought a few longish tops in a size 16 that skim my tum and can be worn with slim fitting shirts/slim jeans, as my legs are still decent.

Losing the weight is the only way forward though. I hate having to dress to disguise one part of my body.

Yes it’s miserable isn’t it, agree losing weight the only option but it’s for now,
....

Where did you get your dresses and tops from sunshine?

I am a similar height, age and shape. My legs and boobs are my redeeming features. If you're losing weight then I don't imagine you want to spend much. I'll try to attach some pics of my staple basics. The floaty top skins over tummy and elongates body, slim fit trousers emphasise height and highlight good legs whilst tummy is hidden by top. Ruched skirt is only pricey item but will probably still fit when you lose weight.

Ooh thanks Lidl fix. Love the George top!

What’s the sizing like on the trousers?

Thanks.

I leave dignity at the door of H & MBlushIf I'm wearing 14s elsewhere I'll be a 26 there, if my 14s are getting tight in the waist (weight goes straight to my gut) then I'll get the 18. The George top is great I posted about on the apple thread and it seems a real favourite.

Kimono jackets and deconstructed blazers worn over the George top should give you comfort with the smart casual look you need.

My own weight loss campaign starts tomorrow- I usually have more success in the autumn/winter with filling soups etc.

Try some jeans from Sainsbury's. They are a good price and are more high waisted so they hold your tummy in. They also come in different lengths. I then wear a longer length Primark vest/cami to smooth out the silhouette before putting on a top or jumper.
