Hairstyle for swimming

Currently on holiday, and DD's (9) hair is a big tangly mess after a few hours at the pool. Her hair is long, fine, a bit wavy and prone to tangle. I plait it, but it's just horrendous. Any tips on how to improve things please???

Could you wet it and put conditioner through it before plaiting it up? And then wash it out after she's done swimming?

What a brilliant idea! I'm doing that next time I take my daughter 8 swimming. Her hair is crazy thick and to the back of her knees.

I do 2 plaits for Dd when she swims, one plait lets all the wispy bits out at the front. 2 French plaits/ braids works well too but takes me longer.

When I was younger I had waist length hair which was a nightmare after swimming.
A trick we used was put in a ponytail and then plait the ponytail. The hairband at the top stops the hair getting pushed down and tangling. Then lots of spray in conditioner.

Comb through hair while dry, put conditioner in so hair soft and plait (one or two). 😉

Thanks all - would you use normal conditioner or a spray in one?

I often put a regular conditioner on and comb it through before swimming

LockedOutOfMN · 14/08/2018 19:58

Sorry if I'm being really thick here but won't the conditioner just come out when you/DD shower before getting in the pool?

megcustard · 14/08/2018 20:44

I don't think many people shower before getting in the pool on holiday.

LockedOutOfMN · 14/08/2018 20:55

Ah OK. At the two outdoor pools I use most regularly it is a requirement, and other nearby ones we go to every once in a while...and ime they make you do so elsewhere (i.e. other countries). In general they don't want sun cream and other gunk clogging their filters, as well as the personal hygiene aspect.

Conditioner is a bad idea before swimming - it gives the chlorine something to 'grab' on to so penetrates the hair more.

What about, as someone else said, spray-in conditioner when you need to untangle the big mess at the end of the day?
