Vibration Plates/ trainers and so on. To buy or not to buy? Any experiences/ advice please?

Hello!

I wonder if anyone can advise on this:

I'd like to start exercising at home in a time efficient way (Around 30 mnts-1 hour/ day) as I'm super busy and will never be able to exercise otherwise. I've heard about vibration plates/ trainers and would like to buy one if they are really efficient. Are they any good? Has anyone tried them? Do they really tone the body and build muscle? Any brand in particular?

Thanks in advance for your precious help!

I would swerve the vibration plate type thing and download some HIIT workout videos from you tube. You can do them in the living room and they take about 20-30 minutes. Even better if you’ve got some light weights (tins of beans would work!) You can do it as often as you like and will definitely see results!

do you mean like a PowerPlate machine? that would be the first thing I'd buy. i use one all the time, doing a lot of exercises on one at the gym that could be done without one iyswim (like planking, push ups, triceps dips, mountain climbers, lunges etc etc). if i'm away and skip the gym, its using one of those that will get me back into shape quickly. also great for building bone density (confirmed by body scans). I'd get one like a shot if i could afford it/have somewhere to put it.

I've had one at home for around 3 years. I use it 3-4 times a week for 10 mins (tricep dips, calf raises, squats, press ups etc). Just that keeps me toned. It also tones abs whilst standing with small crunch motions.
I'd buy another if mine broke. Wouldn't be without one now. Got into it from using one at a gym.
Mine is called gadget fit. You need a corner for it. I doubt I'd use it as much if I had to push it under the bed etc

Love mine. It definitely helps control the jiggle and wobble which is a good incentive to do other exercise.

Hi!

Thanks for your input.

@Daria32 You're right but I tried and failed to persevere. This is why I want to buy a machine now. I work better with equipment I find and I'm sure seeing results will encourage me to be more active generally.

@ Phoolani Something like this
www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=a9_asi_1?keywords=vibration+plates&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Avibration+plates&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1534175974

@Diana I tried to look Gdget Fit but apparently it has been discontinued :(
Do you think this is similar?
www.amazon.co.uk/ZAAP-TX-5000-Power-Vibration-Trainer/dp/B004ISE4XO/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=vibration+plates&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1534175978&sr=8-7

Also, does it have any side effects? tummy aches/ breast tenderness etc?

@ nacybelle Exactly! I want it as an incentive really for me to do other exercise. Which brand do you use please?

Thanks a lot for your help!!!

I had one a few years ago. Big one. Bought from Costco. It really worked. Made the house shake. Feels like your insides are shaking. I got quite toned up.

Then I googled vibrating plates and read some scary stuff. Then saw a warning in a fitness club not to use if you think you might have cancer.

It may well all be bollocks but it put me off and I sold it.

Trying2bFit · 13/08/2018 18:54

@Warmwishes Thanks for your feedback... It got me thinking... :(

@All
Any exercise machine to suggest instead please? (similar with o vibration?)

With no vibration.

I am a bit of a worrier about that type of thing. It might well be nonsense but couldn't get it out of my mind. It was very effective tho

LeftRightCentre · 13/08/2018 19:00

I hurt my knees on one of those vibration plates. I'd go for a belt-driven spin bike to start off and do HIIT workout on it.

Trying2bFit · 15/08/2018 16:40

Thanks for all your replies.

Although I think it generally works, I will not buy it. I might try The Wonder Core 2:

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M04WME0/ref=asc_df_B01M04WME054824500/?hvlocphy=1006715&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=218078614963&creative=22110&hvpone&hvlocint&creativeASIN=B01M04WME0&th=1&hvpos=1o1&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforum-21&hvtargid=pla-425460640252&hvrand=11932025284007572761

What do you think? Is it suitable for beginners? Ay experiences, advice please? (I don't want to lose weight but to be more active/ tone up ad so on).

Thanks!

Looks good to me but I would start a new thread. Put something in the title that might draw a response from a wider group of people that might have tips or used it.

MeMyselfand · 15/08/2018 16:58

It felt like my insides were falling out when I went on one at the gym, not a nice feeling at all Confused

Trying2bFit · 15/08/2018 17:16

@WarmWishes Done! Thx
@MeMyself Grrr! I know the feeling!
