Which hair products for tousled waves?

My hair is very straight and I want to curl it with curling irons for a wedding. Is hairspray enough or do I need something to put on before I curl it? I've also heard about a salt water spray (?), for the beach look, has anyone used anything like that?
TIA

I have got the Toni and Guy sea salt spray and it makes your hair look quite scuffed up and surfy

I do find with these products though that they are rarely as effective as when you have the hairdresser style your hair - for curls on a special occasion such as a wedding could you get it styled by a hairdresser as it would last much longer than doing it yourself at home, IME

i have used the bumble and bumble hairspray with sea salt in - it is for an "undone look rather than a done look ... agree with Franny that you will get better results with a trip to the hairdressers

Thanks! I want a very casual look though, it's not a problem if the waves don't last the whole day, and unfortunately hairdressers in Portugal (where the wedding is) don't get this 'tousled waves' look. Last year when I was going for another wedding I went to a really posh hairdresser in Lisbon, one of the best where lots of celebs go, and asked if I could have some waves in my hair and the woman just said: no, we don't do that! So this year I think I'm trying the diy approach!

I should add that the spray is good for if you want the at the beach look but if you're going to tong it, then its no good. Ive tried & tried to do the touselled look best thing is to go to a hairdressers...maybe even get them to show you how to do it then go home and practice.
