Hair colouring - is this right?

I’m hoping for some advice here.
I had my hair dyed at a hairdresser for the first time back in Feb. It was a core colour with some extra blonde bits so it wasn’t just a block of colour. Anyway it’s now grown and I phoned up today about getting my roots done. The stylist said that I might need to get it done again (with foils) so it would cost as much as last time. I was assuming it would be less as it’s not all my hair that needs dying.
Is this correct? Am I missing something?

Anyone?

If you wear your hair on a parting you could ask to just have the ”T” area done (round the front of your face and along the parting)

But otherwise if it’s a full head of roots only it would still take as long as before, they just wouldn’t brush the colour all the way down, so I think a similar cost is pretty standard

For foils I mean

I have my hair like this. I have a brown core colour and blond foils (although the overall look is a dark blonde).

I have 3 'T roots' done to every 1 foiling. So I get the roots touched up 3 times before I foil again.
This has been largely left up to me. My hairdresser will do what I wish but admits I don't need the foil every time. I quite like the darker brown look beneath. My hairdresser says if I leave the foils too long then yes, they will have grown too far out.

Maybe your Hairdresser wants to see your root regrowrh before they/you decide?

Thanks.
Yes she has said we’ll decide on the day. They’ve grown quite a lot in 6 months not surprisingly and I do wear my hair up a lot so I can’t have one colour on top and another underneath!
My attempts at doing it myself at home had that result which is why I bit the bullet to pay for it to be done professionally.

6 months is quite a long time to leave it in the hairdressing world! I get mine done every 10 weeks, but I think 6 weeks is usually the norm! I expect they are guessing your original core colour may have faded quite a lot over time, so if you want what you had before, you may need the whole lot done, or if you have just roots touched up with the highlights and core the original core colour used may end up looking darker than your faded ends and not quite match up?

Yes that makes sense. I have very long hair and am used to just getting it trimmed every 9-12 (!) months. Having a regular appointment every 6 -10 weeks sounds like a faff to me!

I’d rather take the hit of getting it done completely every 6 months then paying less but more often. I guess when the grey gets worse I’ll have to decide whether to go more often or go natural.
