Hair colour remover advice......

My hair is mid length and naturally curly. I am starting to get grey roots and have for over 20 years coloured my hair using DIY home kits like L'Oréal and Garnier.
Last month I had a moment and decided I wanted to go a deep red colour. I bought a box of garnier 'deep red burgundy' permanent colour but after application it looked more purple than deep red. I then covered this with a box of L'Oréal's Recital dark brown which although has covered the purple well has left my hair too dark and what I'd describe as 'inky' looking!

I would like to strip the colour out of my hair so that I can go to my more natural colour - light brown (mousy brown?!).

Does anyone have experience of using the products that do this?
Do they ruin your hair? Will I live to regret?
I've seen one online at Boots called 'colour B4 hair colour remover extra strength'.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏼

Ok. I've done this several times. My hair is now naturally white. Original colour was dark brown, many years of colouring using home and professional colours, used to be a hairdresser.
The product you have is good.
Read the instructions and follow them to the letter.
I would use a clarifying shampoo before you start, this gets rid of all hair products and gives a better result.

I would section the hair off. Starting at the back this will give a much better, even coverage.
Your hair will come out orange. If you've done it properly it shouldn't look too horrendous.
You can colour again afterwards, but ONLY with a wash out semi permanent colour, one that washes out after about 15 washes.

Nice and Easy do these.
Your hair won't be ruined but will feel a little dry. Plenty of conditioner should sort that out.
You should be able to use a permanent colour after about two weeks.
Good Luck OP.

That's great thank you.

I expected the orange effect. Why do I have to wait to apply the permanent colour?

Your hair will be very porous after so leaving it a couple of weeks will allow a permanent colour to take better on the hair resulting in the shade you require rather than being too dark.

The colour b4 website has some good information on there for you to have a look at, especially FAQ.

Don't have much to add to the above other than that using Head and Shoulders daily is good for stripping colour. (Because it's pretty nasty stuff that you probably shouldn't put on your head otherwise.)

Hmm, take care with it...
I used it on my hair to remove dark red - I love the dark red colour but it was leaching from my hair too badly esp where I'd previously had highlights- and followed the instructions closely. So much rinsing. Have deep conditioners to use afterwards as your hair feels rubbish after.
But the problem I had was that after I waited the required 2 weeks and put a fresh colour on it, streaks of red reappeared in my hair. Had to bleach them out in the end.
So be prepared for it not to work out perfectly.
