Please help 😩 I’ve had the Mum bum for so long that I actually didn’t realise my hair is almost to my bum now. I actually really like my hair down but if there’s even a single hair my 4mo is on it with his chubby little vice fingers. I have limited mobility in my shoulders which doesn’t help and my hair is so heavy. Any ideas on quick and easy updos? I’d love to be able to French plait my own hair but can’t get the knack.

Have a look on YouTube, just search for easy updos, I finally got out a of my hairstyle rut with the help of a topsy tail and those tutorials, I have thick unruly hair and I just needed a few nice easy updos in my arsenal.

MeAgain91 · 06/08/2018 10:51

Thank you, I’ve tried so many times but I’m all wonky and flustered and I don’t want to hear people talking for ages I’m very impatient. All my own problems lol

A bubble ponytail - it's usually a high ponytail (but can be anywhere on the head) and then at 4-6 inch intervals you put another band.

A bun or two.

One or two plaits with a halo braid (plait a 1 cm. wide section of hair behind one ear then pull it over your hairline as if it were a hairband, and pin behind the other ear).

Side plait.

Side fishtail plait, or two fishtail plaits.

Bubble ponytail

and

slightly more fancy bubble ponytail .

Chinese hair sticks, basically twist your hair up like you're putting it in a bun then push the sticks into the bun catching some of the hair by your scalp to secure it. (this was the only kind of bun I could get to stay secure on my head all day when my hair was down to my bum)

Or get it cut to shoulder blade level (which is what I did when it literally never dried, wash every other day and took two days to dry). It was still quite long, long enough for up dos and stuff but much more manageable, looked far healthier too with the tatty ends taken off

MeAgain91 · 06/08/2018 19:45

The hair sticks that were big in the 90s? I’d never have thought of them I’ll have to get some. They’re all fantastic ideas thank you! I am overdue a trim now it’s been since January, I wash my hair put it in a bun and if I don’t touch it it’s still damp 2 days later so I’m with you there! Although luckily it dries a bit quicker in this heat

Yes those exactly!

I have a pair that were a gift that are actually from China. They're cherry wood with that pretty red Chinese brocade type fabric on the ends. I get a lot of compliments on them when I wear them but you can get them very cheaply on amazon, with some really lovely little charms and stuff on them so they're not too plain too

MeAgain91 · 07/08/2018 22:53

That’s a great idea thank you. My hair would barely stay in a ponytail today not even a Mum bun and sweaty in a theme park baby wearing and breastfeeding I did not need my hair to be sticking to me/us I was ready to shave it off

Gather in a low side ponytail. Behind your ear but lower
Then plait. Pull this forward as in a seductive manner! Without the seductionSmile

And put some lipstick on. That is all !

And buy the hair bobbles that match your hair colour - black brown blonde. They style it out better.

There's XXL bobbles by scunci in boots and they are much better at actually holding up your ponytail with heavy hair. DD has a lot of hair and they are the only bobbles that cope. They only come black or brown though so hope you're not blonde.

Google cute girls hairstyles.com
Particularly the daddy-doo's as they are very simple. I learnt to braid from this site. All YouTube videos and weirdly addictive

MeAgain91 · 08/08/2018 00:01

Another fantastic idea thank you! My hair is currently bright blue though so the matching bands may be an issue. It’s badly in need of a trim and the weather is so humid - remember the episode of friends where Monica goes to Barbados I think it is? Yeah that 😐 I’m gonna look at these large bobbles now as there’s naught more irritating than a band that only goes round twice

Wow the scunci bands are £10 a pack on Amazon I think I’ll pop into Boots

Super drug bobbles are really good for thick hair and hold well

DD has the same hair (minus the blue, school rules and all that!)

She usually has a very high pony so the sides 'hide' the shaven sides' but really suits her and has more hair than most people even with half of it missing

MeAgain91 · 08/08/2018 00:34

I agree! I can flip my hair over and wear it down and it still looks thick. I’ve had half up space buns so 2 buns, hair down AND shaved side without it looking thin. It’s falling out like mad but there’s still so much.

OP posts:
MeAgain91 · 08/08/2018 00:34

Still looks thick even wearing it over/covering the side cut

Have you tried hair screws? Look like hair grips only bigger and twisted?

They really hold your hair in place and you should only need 2

DD often has a messy bun - pony tail with another bobble round ina half in half out 'mess' quite suits her

You need to give it a really good brush before you wash it to remove the lose hairs, because you can't really brush curls in between washes.

Jozxyqk · 08/08/2018 00:53

A good bun to do with hairsticks is the Easy Wrap / Lazy Wrap bun, they're similar. Both can be done with thick, & long hair.

I don't have long hair any more but DD does, (it's very thick too) I often put it up with a twist around itself to pull into a sort of chignon, then use two enormous claw clips to hold it.

I always found a Dutch plait (inverted French plait) easier to do on my own hair, compared to a normal French plait.

Spin Pins are also useful. I used to use them a lot, I found them great as my hair (& DD's) is super smooth & regular hairpins just slide right out. I'd recommend buying from a shop rather than online though, as you can check the tips are smooth - you don't want any rough bits on the tip as it will catch your hair.

Jozxyqk · 08/08/2018 00:59

Hair ties for extremely thick hair. I got some from Claire's Accessories for DD, I was surprised how big they are.

dungandbother · 08/08/2018 21:31

Those are the ones I said! Sometimes they have really good offers in Claire's and include these

They will hold up your hair either pony or bun twist

Maybe dye them blue? Wink

MeAgain91 · 09/08/2018 14:21

Thank you everyone! Will take a trip to Boots and see what they’ve got
