Beauty therapy etiquette

Two questions please:

  1. Where do you put your arms when you are having a back massage? Some treatment tables are too narrow for them to go at your sides (I'm size 14) but if I hang them over the sides too long I get pins and needles. If above my head would that get in the therapist's way? Should I just ask?

  2. When having a facial, and the therapist is cleaning around your nose, should you move your mouth/top lip so it stretches the skin for them to get all the scrub granules out?
    TIA

Normally the beauty therapist advises me where to put my arms etc. If they don't just ask.

Yes, just ask. It's dreadful that the tables aren't big enough though. You're only a 14 - they must have clients larger than you? I've often wondered about this as my arms just about fit on the table when I'm having a massage.

Hi i'm a beauty therapist

  1. ideally I'd want my clients arms down by their sides on the couch as this opens up the neck and shoulder area. I would always explain this to my clients. I move my clients arms as part of the treatment (off the sides of couch etc) to allow access to different muscles. You need to look for a good salon with comfortable wider couch.
  1. No just relax and enjoy the treatment!
