Is this a bit expensive for a haircut?

I haven't had my hair cut for quite a while, DD hardly ever. The boys pay £10-12 for a 20-min cut at the barbers.

Took dd for a dry trim of her long hair, stylist spent 10 mins cutting a couple of inches off(just needed tidying) and it cost £20! I was a bit taken aback tbh! Does that sound a lot? Last time I had a cut and blow dry at an expensive salon (notvthis one) it cost £50 iirc!

Hairdressers are more expensive. I'm surprised you didn't phone to ask how much it would be. I always do.

But nowadays I cut my DD"s hair myself. Long hair on a child is easy to trim.

DP went for a trim this week, it took the hairdresser less than 5 mins and cost $40! She had her dry bra strap length hair pulled up into a pony tail on the top of her head and cut (to give her long layers). That was it - no shaping, no other cutting, just the ends cut.

To make it worse DP did mine and DD1s hair today, exactly the same way for free.

I really like the hairdresser but couldn’t help but feel ripped off at the cost.

Mens haircuts are way cheaper this is probably partly to do with the amount of time / work and partly to do with market forces ie women expect to pay more and so are prepared to do so.

I have found that most people use people who come to your house for kids which is much much much cheaper

Ask around for recommendations.

This was news to me I had no idea this was even a thing - somehow had got to my 40s without knowing! But is a fraciton of the cost of going to a hairdresser.

We pay £8 for a lady to come to the house for DC hair. And she’s fab.

It sounds a lot, OP, but seems to be the market rate in salons.

I would trim your DD's hair yourself (and offer her some of the cash difference to spend on books or cinema or clothes or whatever she likes instead?)

Haha yes I shall know next time! It took a lot less time than it takes for Ds2's cut at £10. We won't be going back, for sure.
