Putting shoes in the washing machine?

Looking for advice so that I don’t absolutely ruin my shoesSad

I want to wash my white Nike trainers, black vans, and 2 pairs of Birkenstocks - however I’m very worried about ruining them. Was wondering what setting/temperature to put them in, if the drier is okay or not, if I should load the shoes with clothes or place them in a pillowcase etc. Any advice on how to safely wash them would be appreciated!

I wash trainers, although not sure about birkenstocks, I would be worried about ruining the leather. I put them in a pillow case on 30. I don't have a drier.

I have successfully washed trainers. Just on a normal 30 degree wash and with an old towel in there too so they have something to go round with. Air dry rather than tumble dry. Not tried vans or birkenstocks though.

Don’t put your birkenstocks in the washing machine.

I washed my vans at 30 and put them in the garden in the sun to dry.

I've also successfully machine washed trainers of varying types and colours.

I rashly washed a pair of Cath Kidston Golas which had suede on them. The suede was a bit crunchy after drying but soon softened up again. It did lose a bit of colour, though.

After washing, I just let the trainers air dry (no tumble dryer).

I machine wash my daughter's Converse- I put them in a washing net (I love washing nets) and then dry them outside.

I wouldn't wash anything leather though.

If your Nike’s are air max don’t put them in the machine or the air bit will break.

If you're washing trainers in a washing machine put them in a pillowcase.

I have a net bag thing which I use to wash trainers in the washing machine. It has padded ribs which cushion the shoes in the drum (buy from Betterware, Robert Dyas etc). I also shove an old towel in there to absorb some of the clattering.

I have washed trainers successfully many times (usually the DCs' ones) and they usually come out perfectly well, although sometimes glued insoles come unstuck.

I wouldn't wash Birkies!

Only on a hot wash, on a short 30 degree cycle they’re fine. DS2 has wee Nike air max and they end up minging so have been washed loads of times.

I wash my Nike, Asics (running shoes, not netball trainers), and Skechers regularly in the washing machine at 30º, inside a net bag (a pillowcase would be fine too). Then leave to air dry.

I would not put shoes in the washing machine.
I hand wash trainers and canvas shoes in water that is not hot and put them on the washing line to dry.
I killed a pair of trainers once by machine washing them.

I wash everything. Birkenstocks, trainers... anything. I put them in on 30 and then dry outside. Never had a problem.

I'd be wary about the Birkenstocks, I wore a previous pair around the pool and getting them wet led to the footbed crumbling
