Hi

If I put my makeup brushes into a pan of soapy boiling water for a while will it get rid of the bacteria and germs?

I found some old ones i really want to use and can't afford to duplicate them but don't want spots.

Just thought will the plastic handles melt?

I wouldn't put them in boiling water. You'll probably dislodge the bristles.

I swirl mine into baby shampoo in warm water. Works a treat.

I wouldn't have it boiling. But surely a good soak in warm soapy water should suffice? I give all mine a soak regularly and don't have any issues with spots etc.

I cleaned some with hand wash cupped into the palm of my hand and rinsed the soapy duds out then air dried. It was cheaper than the specialist cleaner, Zi thonk I got the tip from a zoella you tube or blog post.

Don't soak, you don't want water to run down into the ferrule/ metal bit that holds the bristles, over time it will weaken the glue and heat will speed this up. I would spray with some rubbing alcohol to saturate if they are really old/dusty to disinfect, then wash gently with baby shampoo and warm water, reshape then dry the brushes bristles down (angled over a rolled up towel is easiest normally).

Thanks all. I clean my other brushes with my good quality shampoo and it works; just wanted something to really kill the germs. I'm really funny with what I put on my face. I'll have a look into alcohol spray. Thanks for advice. I'll hold of cooking them!
