I have a Tria. It's about 3 years old though, not sure if the ones on sale now are a different model.
I have really thick dark hair. I have used various types of salon hair laser / IPL removal over the years, which has been amazing, and only tried these at-home machines after I'd had most of that done satisfactorily.
I used the at home devices mostly for small areas of hair that newly appeared (especially face), for underarms (which I wasn't bothered enough about to get zapped more than twice in salons) and for occasional top-ups of previously lasered areas.
I found the Lumea fairly ineffective and the Tria better, although not nearly as good as the good salon laser machines of the last 10 years or so.
Not sure if the bit about dark skin mentioned in the URL is relevant for you or not. I am pale. Friend who also found Lumea ineffective (and also has similarly thick dark hair) has Mediterranean skin but hasn't been able to afford Tria to try, and lives too far away to borrow mine regularly.
The Lumea does cover a larger surface area at a time than the Tria, and a lot of people on here have found it effective. But if you have the sort of really thick dark body hair that isn't so common among people of all-UK heritage it might be worth trying a Tria first.
You can usually get decent money for second hand ones on ebay anyway.
