Please please share your recommendations my skin is horrendous and it is really getting me down. I have tried 'the Ordaniary' products and they did nothing. Don't mind spending abit but not too much. Thankyou x

There is a thread on LED masks, which apparently are really good for clearing acne
I have got one myself, but not for acne, [idont have acne ] if you look on that thread and ask anyone who is using one for that reason, you will have a good idea if it would work for you

My teen daughter literally tried everything with little or no effect. What eventually cured it? Using the simplest, fewist ingredient, product she could get. Having sensitive skin as well as acne was horrendous, everything she used just inflamed her skin so badly. So she now avoids anything with alcohol, benzo acids, salycitic acids etc etc. At the moment she is using Body Shop Aloe products, the face wash and moisturiser, and also recently the mask, which she hopes will help fade her scars. What also seemed to help immensely, and after reading someone else's blog, was changing her shampoo to a really simple one too. Again, she is using Body Shop Banana. So, for her at least, have a routine, but a very simple one, with the fewest harsh ingredients you can find.

If anybody stumbles across the link to the thread for the led face mask can you put it on here please I can't find it x

Oh, meant to add, she spend a few weeks on the Body Shop Tea Tree which was also recommended, but that was too harsh too!!

MissMarplesKnitting · 31/07/2018 11:00

I adore the la Roche Posay effaclar duo, it's definitely helped mine, as had the ordinary azelaic acid. Mine tends to be more cysts than classic acne.

Double cleansing with oil, then a gentle wash off one (I like avene) definitely made a difference too.

Don't forget the moisturiser, I learned over bath treatment just made mine worse. Gentle cleansing, moisturiser and effective but not harsh products.

Benzoyl peroxide can be useful short term but it gives me a bad reaction.

OlderThanAverageforMN · 31/07/2018 11:00

We looked at the mask..... Neutrogena Light Therapy Mask... but she was slightly freaked out by it!

Keepkondoing · 31/07/2018 11:00

La Roche posay effaclar range works for me, it’s the only thing that had ever made a difference. I also use liquid gold every other day.

MissMarplesKnitting · 31/07/2018 11:00

Groupon had the neutrogena light mask on offer recently. Worth a go.

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/07/2018 11:59

La Roche Posay did nothing for me. I've found the best products for my skin to be either Dermalogica or Haeckels. I see a visible improvement when I use either range. I tend to use Dermalogica in the morning and Haeckels in the evening. Neither are super-cheap unfortunately but....

ReckItWralf · 31/07/2018 12:23

I’ve just ordered DD the Pai Blemish serum. They were doing 20% off. Although I put some Sudocrem on her face last night and it looks much better today.
Been washing her face with Pai cleanser too. Made a massive difference from the Miceller water she was previously using.

ellephant · 31/07/2018 12:42

I have oily, acne prone skin with scarring on my cheeks - having tried almost everything without success. I've recently come to find that using less products has helped my skin, it's not clear, but better.
I stopped using cloths/flannels too, as I found they were aggravating my skin. If I've worn makeup that day, I gently use a face wipe before cleansing. Morning and night I use an antibacterial face wash called 'quinoderm' and simply splash water on my face to rinse it off.
However I'm thinking of moving on to a gentler cleanser like the bodyshop aloe facewash as pp has suggested.
Then, as and when I feel I need it, I use a vitamin c moisturiser from the bodyshop. I also have the vitamin c skin peel from the same range which I use every 3-4 days to exfoliate.
I've tried the LED mask and didn't think much of it but perhaps I didn't use it for long enough. I might dig it back out.
Change your pillowcases often and try not to touch your face. Wash makeup brushes lots etc.
I hope you find a solution that works for you

jo10000 · 31/07/2018 13:08

Watching with interest.

becks5109 · 31/07/2018 14:05

I use the Una Brennan face wash from boots and the moisturiser too and find both are good.

MissMarplesKnitting · 31/07/2018 14:26

I love the vitamin c cleansing oil from Una Brennan.

I think it depends on your skin type. Mine isn't really oily. It doesn't turn over skin cells easily I think, so my pores get clogged and hence the spots. A gentle regime of cleansing and low level acids has made a huge difference in encouraging skin cell turnover, hence why mine is better with the oil cleanse with bamboo cloths, azelaic acid etc.
Scrubs and benzoyl peroxide just made it angry, sore and more oily than it naturally is.

But if you have oily skin, those treatments might be perfect for you.

joeybarnett · 31/07/2018 15:13

Struggled with oily, acne prone skin all my life. I seem to get it all on my cheeks!

The only thing that has helped is using a non oily moisturiser in the morning after showering (I actually just use a mans one - Bulldog!)

And I have prescription cream from the Doctors - its Benzyl...something! And its a mix of that and something else. I personally have had no problems with this cream and it doesn't make my skin angry at all but I guess everyone is different. If you haven't tried it, maybe give it a go?

I can't live without it - I put it on every evening and clears up my skin a treat.

My skin isn't perfect and completely blemish free but the ones I do get are hardly noticeable!

I really recommend going to the GP and asking for the cream.

xJune88 · 31/07/2018 15:29

I have just looked at the benzoyl but it's not recommended during pregnancy or when trying to conceive which I am so doesn't look like an option :( has good reviews though! I'm going to order the led face mask and see how I get on x

Obagi Nu Derm FX was my saving grace. Three months all it took to work it's magic and in the process it removed blemishes to. I'm now on month six having cut down from month 4 to every second day application, then month 5 3 times a week. It's not cheap but for my skin it was worth the money.

princesstiasmum · 31/07/2018 21:40

xJune88 i would check its ok to use the mask while pregnant, ebay have sone more reasonably priced ones if you decide to try one

MissMarplesKnitting · 31/07/2018 21:48

Just as an aside, my acne was worse when expecting my son. It was much worse....ruddy hormones!!

xJune88 · 01/08/2018 09:51

@princesstiasmum thankyou. @MissMarplesKnitting I think that's why my face is kicking off to be honest I've had 2 losses since January (6/7 And 13 weeks) and only on my 2nd period now my poor hormones must be lost and all over lol! X

Seconding what OlderThanAverageforMN said - for me, it was simpler, less harsh products. I have oily skin and would always use products containing salycylic acid because it wiped the oil out - then my skin would produce more to compensate!

Every evening I use a sensitive wipe to remove makeup (the Wilko ones are good if you're on a budget, or I buy Simple when they have a bulk-buy offer) and use the Cien gentle facewash from Lidl (blue, no exfoliating beads). In the evenings I use the Lacura eye serum from Aldi but I never moisturise my face, it's far too oily.

I now get the occasional zit, but using gentle products has really saved my skin.

catlady34 · 01/08/2018 10:24

Go to the doctors. Prescription meds are the only thing that have ever helped my skin, and I wish I'd gone way sooner. Changed my life.

WhereAreWeNow · 01/08/2018 12:31

I really wish La Roche Posay Effaclar range had been around when I was a teenager blighted by terrible acne. I now use the face wash and Effaclar Duo cream everyday and they really keep my skin under control. Serozinc is good too. Oh and I sometimes use the mask. I'm a big fan.
Generally keep it simple. Don't use too many harsh products.

joeybarnett · 03/08/2018 15:33

I agree with catlady24 - the only thing that has helped clear up my skin has been prescription cream.

And maybe they can offer you something that is safe to take whilst you are pregnant!
