The cheese-grater has made things worse

I am talking about this highly rated foot file here:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GJSIEJA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8

It does seem to work for a day or two after I have used it, but then hard skin reappears with what seems to me a vengeance.

Should I go back to a pumice stone? My areas of concern are mostly the sides of the big toes near the nail and the inner side of the ball of the foot. The cheese-grater seems to do a good enough job with the heals.

I think the nature of callous is that the more you rub it the more it grows. It’s a protective mechanism. The only way to get rid would be to be barefoot and never walk on it!

I went to a chiropodist for endless hard skin and he told I didn’t have much hard skin but my feet needed moisture. A heavy duty moisturiser a couple of times a day really helped.

I also use the emjoi micro pedi plug in version which is great.

This newtons chiropodist sponge is what you want. I have awful hard skin on my feet and this has improved it no end. You soak your feet for at least five minutes and soap them up. Then you rub them with this sponge, which isn't a soft sponge at all, it is more like a pumice stone but loads better. Then out some heavy duty moisturiser on. It works instantly and it lasts. There is no going back for me, I think it is incredible. I recommended it to my mum and she agreed. I was recommended it on MN, and I reckon other posters will recommend it to you too.

I can vouch for the Newton's Chiropodist Sponge. I saw it recommended here and ordered it on a whim. Bloody hell was it effective in removing dead skin! But a moisturiser is also essential. My second recommendation is a moisturiser heavy in urea. I got one with 40% urea and on it's own it softened and exfoliated hard skin tremendously well. I don't think ordinary foot creams work as well. The urea is the magic ingredient.

Thank you for that, I am happy to try the Newton's Chiropodist Sponge and up the moisturiser. makes sense really Smile

The foot-soaking solutions work too (the ones that make your feet peel). But after that you still need upkeep so I still recommend urea creams. :D

I bought a Newtons sponge recently after seeing it recommended here and they are AMAZING! Much more effective than a pumice stone.
