White underwear

Ugh. For the millionth time, my white bra has come out of the wash a sort of light gunmetal but I know that after the next wash or two it will be full on ash-coloured dinge. It's so annoying. At the risk of sounding like a 1950s housewife, how do you keep your smalls properly white? Am I buying the wrong sort? Should I be chucking bleach in the wash? Or do I just need to buy new white bras every few months (seems excessive)?

I do white with white and my bra and undies stay white and nice. My sister mixes everything (colours, white, black, jeans, ...) at low temperatures and her underwear are horrible

Annebronte · 30/07/2018 07:40

Whites only wash with a biological powder detergent should do it.

Branleuse · 30/07/2018 07:42

I can never keep whites white so i rarely buy them, but i know my mum occasionally soaks her whites in a bucket with mild bleach solution if they need it

Misty9 · 30/07/2018 07:50

I wash whites separately and chuck a scoop of soda crystals in with the powder.

ittooshallpass · 30/07/2018 07:53

Wash at 30 degrees. Whites only with a scoop of the pink stuff.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/07/2018 07:55

30 degrees won't kill off any bacteria. I wash whites and underwear at 60 degrees with bio powder, and all my whites are white.

dementedpixie · 30/07/2018 07:57

I use bio powder at 40 degrees in an all white wash with a scoop of whitening powder

dementedpixie · 30/07/2018 07:57

Although I prefer nude underwear now

I don't know what bacteria you're worrying about in your bra, but washing products these days are designed to work at lower temperatures. My friend insists on washing everything at 90 degrees and then wonders why everything is grungy grey Hmm

Each to their own. I can assure you I have no bacteria in my underwear and everything is lovely and bright white Smile

Washing whites separately keeps them white. No need to wash at higher than 30 degrees.

I found Dr Beckman (I think) sachets work really well, they say they act as a colour collector to get whites white again, I did really notice a difference after I used them.
