Wrap dresses and boobs/gaping

I have just bought this dress:

www.fatface.com/women/clothing/dresses-skirts/martha-jungle-floral-wrap-dress/933899.html?dwvar_933899_color=steel

It's really lovely and I love the colours but it gapes a bit around the cleavage area and keeps showing a bit of my bra. It's going to annoy me if I constantly have to adjust it.

Not sure whether to return or if there is anything I can do about the gaping...?

Sew it. That's what I do with gaping shirts. If you use a sewing machine, it won't show, it will look part of the designing its aim.

middleagedalready · 28/07/2018 12:53

I have some wrap over jump suits from gap, they have a little hook and eye just where they would gape, it is simple and works well.

Joe66 · 28/07/2018 12:53

It's aim = iyswim

PalePinkSwan · 28/07/2018 12:54

Sew it shut.

If you really can’t sew, you could get those velcro stick on dots.

Butterymuffin · 28/07/2018 12:55

Costume tape also works.

MuddyElephant · 28/07/2018 12:58

Sew it shut or wear a vest top underneath so if it gapes it's not revealing anything!

Dancergirl · 28/07/2018 13:01

It's a proper wrap dress rather than mock wrap, so opens up competely at the front. So can't sew it! I can sew, maybe a hook and eye would do the trick.

I've used one of those tiny gold safety pins on the inside until I've got time to sew. As long as you only pin to the facing/lining and don't pin through to the front fabric of the dress it won't show! Honest!

shoelaces · 28/07/2018 13:06

I use a modesty panel. Blush it hooks around your bra and covers gape without having to wear a full vest and get warm. Will find a link for you.

Bobby pin the underneath layer to your bra. That will keep it from moving.

Or even the top layer - the dress is a dark pattern and no one will notice.

I also use a tiny safety pin - works perfectly and it can’t be seen.

Redcrayons · 28/07/2018 13:10

I usually wear a vest if something is a bit gapey. In this weather though, a safety pin would do the trick.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 28/07/2018 13:15

Those modesty panels look handy shoelaces. Thanks for the link. I wear vests under lots of outfits but so get quite hot. However they also act as a bit of shapewear under a dress, but the panels are a useful alternative.

sonjadog · 28/07/2018 13:25

I use a safety pin for tops like that.

dementedma · 28/07/2018 13:30

I love wrap dresses but they do gape. I have a selection of brooches which I wear to pin the front together. Decorative and useful

ManicStreetTeacher · 28/07/2018 13:31

I overcame this problem by buying short vest tops on Amazon to wear underneath. Not the normal length of vest top but a little mini one (the kind folk with small boobs could wear without a bra). They cost a few pounds each, are available in a range of colours and aren't noticeable in the way a longer vest would be, even under jersey material.

MonaLisaSimpson · 28/07/2018 13:58

Safety pin.

tethersend · 28/07/2018 13:59

I pin the first wrap around bit to my bra on the opposite side IYSWIM. Then wrap the other bit over. Never gapes.

seven201 · 28/07/2018 15:24

I use a safety pin or two for gaping issues. I have the jumpsuit of that fabric - I love it!

Dancergirl · 28/07/2018 15:25

Thanks, some great ideas here. Think I might try sewing a hook and eye. Not keen on having to wear a vest top underneath.

I find a book and eye or safety pin often pulls the fabric a bit and looks obvious.

Awrite · 28/07/2018 15:34

My dh safety pins me in.

Skittlesandbeer · 28/07/2018 15:45

You might find that 3 hook n eye sets, sewn in quite near each other, will pull the fabric in a less obvious way. That’s why teeny safety pins are good, they anchor along the long edge rather than just one point.

Nice frock.
