Stain remover suggestion - help!

Hello All,

Would really appreciate some help. My husband put my favourite Indi and Cold green jeans through a 40 degree wash (with whites and other colours!) and the leather has bled on the jeans and stained them.

This happened on the one day in 5 years I've been in bed sick. I take care of these and always put them on a 30 handwash cycle. I could kill him - I mean who does that?!

Apart from the other ruined clothes I'd love to save these jeans as they are perfect for me and I can't find them anywhere to replace them.

I've washed them 3 times so far with vanish spray and then vanish gel really rubbed in. The stains have lessened but still very visible.

Does anyone have any ideas of things that might work?

This pic is taken with vanish gel on the stain. There are multiple other stained areas. I may have to kill him if I have to bin them.

Have you tried hairspray?

Piccolino2 · 24/07/2018 17:14

@ThisIsHistory , no I haven't. Is that likely to make the rest of the colour bleed? In which case I'd certainly try as a last restore.

Off to google hairspray as a stain remover....

This happened with a pair of white jeans.

I used spray stain remover left on all night then washed them. It took a couple of times to work but eventually did.

If not you could always dye them.

Piccolino2 · 24/07/2018 17:34

I'll try it on all night tonight. Might mix a paste of vanish powder with some hot water and see if that works.

I thought about dyeing them but I really love the colour, it's so unusual. If all else fails I might give it a go, was thinking maybe purple but not sure if I can get there from this green...

I have a lot of success with Vanish Oxi Action. The platinum version. You will possibly only find the platinum one in Waitrose. I would soak them overnight in it and then throw a scoop in the machine (if they can be machine washed) and rewash. It might work. The whites version of this product is brilliant at getting the whitest whites too.

And yes the colour of the jeans is stunning. I wouldn't want to be dyeing those either. Good luck!

If all else fails if that's the only stain, can't you just wear them with a top that covers the stain?

It's only just below the waist band. Plenty of short t-shirts would both cover it and look stylish.

Piccolino2 · 24/07/2018 18:22

@Rascallsall thanks for that. I usually always have vanish platinum oxi in the house but for some reason didn't order it last week and now we only have the white. Will pop out and get some. Anything is worth a try!!

@CrystalHCarrington I can't sadly as the stains are on the waist band, the front, both of which could be covered by a longer top but the worst stains are typically down the back of the leg - nothing will cover it sadly. Sigh

I've washed them again after making a paste of vanish overnight and the stains are going nowhere. The colour is fading and the leather is coming away from being so constantly wet after being washed so many times in a row. There are going in the bin. I'm so sad and trying hard not to be livid with my husband. 😢

I really feel your pain. I banned my husband from washing any of my clothes or our daughters more than 20 years ago. His 'crime' was not realising there were 3 white baby vests in the dark wash he put on, so not nearly as bad as ruining your wonderful green jeans, but I am sure this stance has saved many potential washing disasters over the years!
