Help - night away

I have an overnight city break to look forward to and am stressing about the silliest of things! We are travelling by train and will spend the day in city before going to hotel and same in reverse the following day. Which means I will have to cart my overnight bag around with me - and it’s heavy and cumbersome. So I am searching for an alternative which I need to be able to sling over my shoulder, to wear alongside a crossbody handbag, is light and looks smart. I’ve been looking at La Pliage Tote bags. Would that work or would it look utterly ridiculous?

Whatever I buy needs to hold pjs, washbag (small), straighteners, a change of clothes and ipad/charger - so don’t think I need loads of space.

Does anyone have any suggestions please? TIA.

Only I could kill a thread with an opening post 🙄 but going to bump anyway in hope of some advice/recommendations!

I use a Kipling tote for overnight stays - really lightweight, plain black. I don't bother with a separate handbag.

A La Pliage would be perfect.

Is there a left luggage office or lockers at the station? Or is the hotel central enough you leave the luggage at the hotel when you arrive but before you check in? Either of those would be preferable to lugging toiletries and chargers all day.

Thank you - sounds like I am on the right track with a tote though shall have a look at Kipling too to compare.

Loonoon, sensible suggestions but station is too far in one direction from part of city we are going to to trip back to collect bags - and hotel is on other side so not practical to go out there and back in again.

Thanks!

Second Le Pliage, they are great as they are so light to start with.

If in central London, the Portrait Gallery have lockers. We often leave bags there for a few hours when staying overnight.

Hah! I use a kipling bag every holiday/overnight stay. I just throw everything in there. It gets me in the holiday mood as it has blue pineapples on it. But it is a cross body bag so is handy (if I don't pack anything heavy).

Someone on here recommended these:

They're slightly cheaper on Amazon. I now have two and they have utterly been brilliant - the straps are long enough for the shoulder. They're also fine as hand luggage and will fit under the seat in front (although possibly not if very full).

Aaarg, who mentioned Kipling? this is really nice but probably waaay too small, I’d need to measure but would reckon it’s the size of a Thomas backpack which DS had as a toddler!! Dinky though!

With sensible head on, La Pliage probably best for size and would get use as a carry-on bag when flying.

I bought a large long-handled Le Pliage tote which did me 2 hours to London on the train, a lunch with a friend, few hours shopping, tube to meet up with DH, night in a hotel, and train home again. I just rolled up a nightshirt, underwear, and a change of top plus toiletries and the rest was my usual handbag contents of phone, charger, kindle, purse, etc. It looks like a tote handbag but holds all you need.

SpeckledyHen · 24/07/2018 18:00

The long handled Le Pliage would be good imo . It’s light and comes in lots of colours .
