Possibly getting cold feet over new Birkenstocks- are these really fugly?

Just as a reminder I am the person who asked if the most horrendous green Hotter sandals were nice Grin

Going on holidays and took the plunge and bought these, mainly because I love purple. Are they fugly? I am not 100% sure.

Ooh I love that colour. I bought these yesterdaySmile Kumba SFB Magic Snake. The lady in the shop told me to size down so I did. They do seem to fit but they didn't have my usual size to try so I couldn't compare.

Rosewhitetips, I can honestly say mine have never ever smelt! But it’s true they are like marmite. But I love them, the comfort is second to none.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/07/2018 15:39

I have those in white and live in them all summer. I also bought them in black but my 20 yo cool and trendy uni student DD made off with them. If she thinks they are good to wear then so do I and so should you OP. The purple ones are lovely. And your feet will be cool and comfortable.

Kintan · 24/07/2018 15:42

Those are lovely. I’m a big birkenstocks fan, although mine always end up smelling bad after wearing them for a few months :(

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 24/07/2018 20:37

Well, I wore them around the house today (in and out to the washing line, cleaning up dog poo - the usual glamour that should really disqualify me from ever posting on S&B) and I have to say they were wonderfully comfortable.

I did get a shocking cramp in my instep when I took one of them off for a moment (my second toe also did a claw action and moved independently from my other toes Shock).

I'm now a convert though, thanks MN Smile

I've just smelled mine to see if they do smell and have to say they just smell of leather and Cork. I don't have particularly smelly feet however and I think living in Birkenstocks all summer means that your feet don't get sweaty so they don't tend to smell. I went to my yoga class last night and the smell of people taking off their trainers and socks was disgusting but no smell from my area thank you.

careerontrack · 24/07/2018 21:59

Utterly hideous but extremely comfortable

Whyhellodaffodil · 24/07/2018 21:59

I’ve just bought my first pair today - the comfort!!

Mine have never smelled, ever!

I really like that purple, great colour. I bought a pair of dark grey suede with a white sole Arizonas for this Summer, and I LOVE the colour. I never get black or brown, too boring. A Birkenstock has to be really loud in order to transcend the fugliness...

rainbowfudgee · 24/07/2018 22:02

I love mine. Got them for £3.49 brand new on eBay. Most comfortable shoes ever. Purple ones look good and slight frumpiness is allowed with birkenstocks!

Bunnybobtails · 24/07/2018 23:24

I have two pairs of the Madrid style, one of which is a deep purple patent and I love them! I see why people think they're fugly but they're comfy so I don't care.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 25/07/2018 00:01

I love them. Bright pedicure required though if they will look a bit tree higher

Ohyesiam · 25/07/2018 00:08

Been wearing them for years, usually metallics, but I had the most delicious pair in yellow once.
None of them have ever been stinky.

namastayinbed · 25/07/2018 07:06

Just bought some white Schuh arizona dupes having been inspired by this thread. Have an old pair of gizeh but don't find them comfortable.

Toofle · 25/07/2018 08:48

Mine are Floridas with three straps. I love them but my toes are getting clawed and calloused from holding them on. Podiatrist suggests finding sandals with softer soles.

Rememory · 25/07/2018 10:26

I just bought these ones, same colour as yours Why. I like them and they're not too bad on my feet so far.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 25/07/2018 11:34

namastayinbed please can you let us know if the schuh dupes are large, small fitting or true to size? I had to size down in Birkenstocks.

Birkenstock virgin here but now considering them because I have manky chemo toenails and it's usually painful to wear 'normal' shoes that press down on the nails. Tesco £4 sliders are good for pottering but not for walking very far.

Arizona seems to be a favourite style on here. Also sizing - I was a 39, probably a 40 now. Any advice? I like purple btw.

SuburbanRhonda · 25/07/2018 14:03

I always go down a size.

I’ve been bitten by a horse fly on my ankle and my birkenstocks are the only shoes I can wear as my foot has ballooned to twice its normal size Sad

teachergirl2011 · 25/07/2018 14:10

Yes they're ugly

namastayinbed · 25/07/2018 21:08

Sure martin (although I just cracked and bought some originals - I figure the Schuh ones will be sticky as pleather)

Cheerbear23 · 25/07/2018 23:24

I will never be parted from my Birkenstocks - don’t care if people say they’re fugly.
They have a clunky charm of their own

MikeUniformMike · 25/07/2018 23:27

Are the uppers synthetic?
I wouldn't have got them in purple.
I have birkenstocks and they are fugly but I love them.

Bouledeneige · 25/07/2018 23:31

I re-fell in love with them this year (I have a couple that have lasted forever and are still very comfy and not smelly) - love some of this seasons colours and styles a little more than the purple.

OlennasWimple · 25/07/2018 23:48

After wearing my Birkies literally every day for a year in hot weather (think like the UK is currently experiencing but every day), they are starting to whiff a little, but I suspect that other sandals would have gone stinky long before now with similar wear
