Hair loss

Hello,

Since having my daughter 5 months ago, my hair has been falling out at an alarming rate Sad I know it's 'normal' but I'd rather it wasn't!

My iron and thyroid levels are both fine. I wash my hair every other day if not every 3 days and use Toni & guy with a strengthening mask, so not washing it excessively.

Does anyone have any tips/products I can try out, I'm starting to look like uncle fester.

Thank you

I had the same problem. My gp suggested a silica supplement, which turned the problem around pretty quickly. You can by silica on its own but it's also in hair and nail vitamins.

Fab I'll give it a go!

Thank you

Get vitamin D levels checked, it can cause hair loss and deficiency is really common in the UK.

i recommend a multi-pronged approach. basically do everything you can that will help.

  • biotin supplements
  • scalp massage (gentle at first until it stops falling out then you can be a bit more vigorous) to get the blood flowing
  • use caffeine shampoo such as alpecin or the other female one
  • peppermint oil is brilliant - scientifically proven to stimulate hair growth more than prescription hairloss things - I mix several drops into my handful of shampoo when washing, leave on for a few minutes while it tingles - and also into castor oil and massage that on / leave overnight (caster oil also is excellent). It's a greasy mix to leave on but do it the night before a wash
  • if you're stressed try to chill a bit (easier said than done sometimes!) as stress can really affect it

I have also heard infrared lamps excellent and am trying one at the moment but too early to report back on that one.

A combo of all the other ones has helped me considerably when I suffered a lot of hairloss for various reasons - I am the proud owner of silky lovely hair again and fluffy new hairs where it's still growing back. It's taken some time but it's worth it.

I had this after dd last year. I actually got a bald spot about the size of a 20p. Docs said it was alopecia, it's still there but not gotten any bigger thankfully! I live in hope it will return as the rest of my hair is quite thick.

Try a caffeine shampoo like Plantur 39 (sold in Boots or similar). I found it really helped after losing lots of hair following illness.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 20/07/2018 22:13

Normal for a GP is anything above 11 I think. However for heathy Hair growth it needs to be 70

jazzyfizzles · 20/07/2018 22:20

Great thanks everyone I'll give it all a go! I saw the caffeine shampoo advertised but wasn't sure if it'd work, glad to hear the reviews!

I'm not sure what the last post meant about over 70?

Thanks again

Following this thread as i have the same problem...

princesstiasmum · 21/07/2018 10:33

Poster meant ferritin i think [iron] should be over 70, as low iron can cause hair loss
I have been trying to build mine up as my ferritin was too low,
Was advised by Dr to eat more red meat and green veg, but i have got some Feroglobin, iron supplements, from H&B and biotin, and iron has gone up quite a bit
