I have given in and joined the birkenstock bandwagon...MN this is your fault entirely!

I recently bought some saltwaters which I loved but can't walk too far in them anymore as they make my feet ache through lack of support (amazing for the beach though, obviously).

My poor trotters have been in such a state that I gave in after all the raving about birks on here and can I just say GOOD LORD SWEET MOTHER OF COMFORT.

I shall burn all other shoes and dance naked around the embers. (naked apart from my glorious birks, of course.)

So in short, if you're on the fence, get them! Yes they're a bit ugly but in a rather pleasing way IYSWIM.

Thank you Mumsnet, you are collectively wise as always.

@backinaminute that was several hours Wink

Not that I was sitting here with them in my basket open on another browser.....

Thank you they look fab so I'm treating myself xx

SpicedGingerTea · 19/07/2018 20:49

Has anyone tried Moshulu Bavaria?

I've been eyeing them up in the sale, only £39 at the moment, and the metallic ones look lovely.....

mmmgoats · 19/07/2018 21:46

Those schuh ones are actually really nice design wise.
I'm already seriously eyeing up a pair of mayari birks now despite being new to the club!

I love mine, had them for years, but I wish I could drive in them! I just find that the sole is so rigid that I can’t feel the pedals and it makes me nervous. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

busyboysmum · 19/07/2018 21:57

I drive in them and don't find any problems with them. However I do live in them so may well have softened them up a bit.

Crispmonster1 · 19/07/2018 21:58

Oh god me too. I never thought I’d come to this!

backinaminute · 19/07/2018 22:06

@busyboysmum haha

woodhill · 19/07/2018 22:08

I went to the shop in London but it was awful. The narrow fitting Arizona seemed to catch my little toe and it was too busy

Okki · 19/07/2018 22:09

@Squ1ggle - just found the Seres style which I think I prefer the look of to Yara. Have you seen them?

I appear to have fallen down a Birkenstock rabbit hole. I fancy so many pairs.

CrabappleBiscuit · 19/07/2018 22:33

I’ve got a giveh pair. Great for plantar fasciitis. Wore them all round Europe this summer. www.birkenstock.com/gb/gizeh-birko-flor/gizeh-core-birkoflor-0-eva-u.html?dwvar_gizeh-core-birkoflor-0-eva-u_color=75

SnuffleBadger · 19/07/2018 22:41

Birkenstock mayari are the best thing I have ever had on my feet....I am on my 6th pair and don't intend trying anything else!!

mmmgoats · 19/07/2018 22:41

do the mayari's come up narrow or are they the same fitting as normal birks does anyone know?

OP posts:
Ironfloor269 · 19/07/2018 23:26

@CrabAppleBiscuit Giveh is what I have. They are the best.

NameChangedAgain18 · 19/07/2018 23:29

Mayari fit is the same as Arizona (I have both).

Trilllllian · 19/07/2018 23:32

I have a pair every year - then I wear them as slipper all winter.
I’ve just had to buy a second pair as I’ve not worn anything else for the summer and I’ve got dry skin where the straps are- so I bought some with straps in a different place.

I’ve had so many but this year it’s dark blue iridescent snakeskin. What’s not to like?

colouringinagain · 19/07/2018 23:46

Another birki fan but broke, so have ordered those schuh ones only 22 in the sale Smile thanks eminy really hoping they're comfy!

Eminybob · 20/07/2018 03:44

They are - I should have mentioned though you might need to size up

Tanaqui · 20/07/2018 08:12

I had my first pair in 1989 but Sunny beats me! They are normal fit (which is wide) if the little foot picture is empty, and narrow fit if it is shaded in. Arizona definitely come in both, not sure about mayari. Narrow is too narrow for me and I’m most annoyed as lots of shops have taken to stocking the narrow rather than the standard!

carbuckety · 20/07/2018 08:21

sunySomer I'm 60. I've been through so many fashion trends now but Birkenstocks bought originally from the natural show store in Covent Garden were one of the first in the 70s while I was a student ( and desert boots from Clark's while at school in the even earlier 70s, makes me laugh to see my 22 year old son in them! ). Oh and Swedish clogs and Laura Ashley fabric to make copies of her dresses from her little shop in Bath....

carbuckety · 20/07/2018 08:29

Btw the natural show store has a sale here just put your size in . Quite a good selection

colouringinagain · 24/07/2018 11:31

@eminybob

My sandals are here! They're lovely! I'm 4.5 and ordered 5. They're snug, but main question is, do the posited leather straps soften up?!?! I'm finding the diagonal posited one uncomfortable. Happy to persist if they improve but if not Sad no good...

colouringinagain · 24/07/2018 11:35

Plaited not posited!

Shutupanddance1 · 24/07/2018 15:55

I got the Mayari mocha ones and I have to say, they are amazing!

I live in a hot country as well. Been here 5 years, why I didn’t buy them before is a mystery to me!

SenorBork · 24/07/2018 16:15

I always wear the Rio style - they are less trendy, but by god are they comfy. I like having a strap to secure them to my feet, never trust slip-on shoes Grin.

Skinfulnappies46 · 24/07/2018 19:06

I got the Arizona in rose gold and found they really hurt the top of my feet. Have tried adjusting the straps but no difference. Wasted my money 😱
