How to get rid of milia?

mmmgoats · 18/07/2018 22:01

I have what I think is milia - a single white spot that just won’t go away and doesn’t feel like the rest of the spots i’ve been getting (skin in a bad hormonal phase)
I was going to go to the doctors as i’ve had it for about a month but it does match the pictures online of milia, even though I only have one.

I’m not sure if it’s gwtting bigger but now i can see it, it’s all I can bloody see. Won’t squeeze like a normal spot even though the fact it’s white means it looks like it has a head on it ISWIM.

Just wondering if there’s any tried and tested methods anyone has used to kill them?

You have to get a fine needle, prick the skin above it and squeeze. If it's in a fleshy area this may be a bit tricky. Alternatively some beauty salons will deal with them, but you have to hope you get someone who knows what they're doing!

@scatteroflight i think i might struggle, it’s on my cheek next to my nose ish and I am fleshy of cheek! Sounds silly but when you say beauty salon would the average place that does facials know what to do with them?

I pop mine with a fine needle then squeeze the gunk out

Do you have a comedone extractor? If you pierce it and use a very small one of those on it that may work

Same as Pp. Be brave and go in with a clean fine needle. The stuff inside will be semi solid though so you need to squeeze quite hard.... and film it for the sporners! Envy (not envy!)

I’ve done the same as above - fine needle and squeeze! Always in awkward places though :/ I had two in the corner of my eye for absolutely ages.

moreismore · 18/07/2018 22:16

As above-if you poke and wiggle the needle to make a bigger hole you may be able to scrape it out if that makes sense? I find I only have success removing them once they are sitting quite proud of the skin surface tho.. obvs sterilise needle and use a fab of antiseptic afterwards.

Prevention wise, regular exfoliation and less rich moisturiser in that area worth a try but I think it’s mainly luck/genes if job are prone to them or not

I had one quite close to my eye that I couldn’t bear to pierce and pop.

Used a mild salicylic peel a couple of times a week followed by a clay mask and over a few months it faded away to nothing.

I avoid skincare with silicones in now, as I suspect that’s what caused the milia.

I had a milia for ages, tried piercing it then squeezing it and I just couldn't get the bugger but after about 2 weeks of starting 1% retinol from the ordinary every other night it was gone
