Going to Paris this weekend, what can I wear and what should I buy? Can I wear this dress?

I think it’s due to be warm but overcast in Paris this weekend. We are there all day Saturday till around Sunday early afternoon.

I never look glamorous in Paris so any advice would be apppreciated! Would this dress be too fussy?

Also any farmacie recommendations would also be appreciated. Thank you!

I think that's rather frumpy, I'm afraid. It's huge.

Why not just some slim trousers and a lovely silk shirt? In plain colours, no pattern, just timeless and classy.

Or a fitted dress in a solid colour, with big sunglasses and great shoes?

AWafferthinmint · 18/07/2018 21:51

I love it! It would look great with a leather jacket and some Stan Smiths.

AWafferthinmint · 18/07/2018 21:53

Also, stock up on Nuxe and La Roche Posay products, they are much cheaper there. I'm very jealous, enjoy!

bathildab · 18/07/2018 21:54

I think you will boil; Paris is as warm as London right now in high 20s and can be humid. I would go for something lighter I'm afraid.
Perhaps in the spring I love the idea of that dress styled as suggested above.

Newhouse76 · 18/07/2018 21:56

Ok I will ditch the dress! Trousers and a top sounds nice - any other ideas?

Love it x

You want floaty summer dresses and sandals, OP.

Paris is like a sauna at the moment.

habibihabibi · 19/07/2018 04:13

Oh that dress is lovely and perfect for avoiding the sun. Heading to Zara this afternoon to see if it's in stock.

toastedbeagle · 19/07/2018 08:47

The last time I was in Paris I bought a dress almost identical to that! Black polka dots, floaty, with a collar. Was knee length but still, uncanny!!

This was in 2006 so timeless indeed

sonjadog · 19/07/2018 09:10

I love that dress, but not mid-summer! I would go for strappy sundresses and sandals.

3stonedown · 19/07/2018 14:18

I think that dress would look fab. I always think the stuff online on Zara looks crap but looks great on others. I think they make the models do some odd posing. However not for mid-summer.

Thanks everyone!

Ok I feel a bit of panic - DH has booked us brunch in this place on Saturday:

en.hotel-particulier-montmartre.com

A colleague of his recommended it, full of ‘nice’ people she told him 😳

Can anyone recommend me an actual outfit to wear with links? I have time to pop to the shops tomorrow.

I’m size 8/10 five foot 4, dark hair long. If someone could just tell me what to buy I will do it! Grin

LoveInTokyo · 19/07/2018 21:25

Don’t panic!

You’re going to Paris, not the Oscars!

What summer dresses do you have? I’m sure you don’t need to go and buy a new outfit.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 19/07/2018 21:40

I love simple things, like Karen Mullen dresses. They've got loads of lovely Bardot dresses in the sale, or this beautiful classic LBD that you could wear anywhere:

You could think about getting a celebrity body-double, whose style you copy relentlessly till you find your own. Like Meghan Markle. Just study what she wears and steal her ideas!

Illegally18 · 19/07/2018 23:39

Look for the linen blend sleeveless dress from m and s. It has a lot of chic. The polka dot dress is bulky

PolkaHots · 20/07/2018 00:03

You’re talking like you literally don’t have any clothes.

Oddbutnotodd · 20/07/2018 03:09

Just wear something you would wear here at the moment if you were going out for lunch. It’s hot! Wear something cool and comfortable. You will be too hot in a body con dress or trousers even.

PortSouth · 20/07/2018 04:26

These Next linen blend dresses for under £30.

Whatever you wear do not forget that it's all about accessories, the dress, or Tshirt and shorts is just a base, the right necklace, purse, shoes, sunglasses, hat and voila ! (pick what suits you, what you have). Just walk around with bubbly eyes and confidence, and voila. (if you find someone particularly well dressed with the same shape as you, take a note of it and duplicate it in your workplace later on : no need to reinvent the wheel and... you can stop someone to ask where they got that stunning scarf etc, it's a compliment ! ) Gosh, I would like to be in your suitcase ! It's a good couple a weeks before I can make a move... Big shades will go very well with that dress.

hibeat · 20/07/2018 04:58

A linen dress is always appropriate. Entre les deux I side with all the others.

KnobJockey · 20/07/2018 08:15

I have that polka dot dress! It's fab, but it would be warm for daytime. I've stashed it for autumn and many years to come as I love it. Buy it anyway.

LoveInTokyo · 20/07/2018 08:24

I agree about accessories.

Just wear a plain, weather appropriate outfit, with sunnies, a nice pair of earrings or bracelet and comfortable sandals. Paint your toenails and voila!

Don’t stress about your outfit. The French girls really don’t. I’m sure you have plenty of lovely clothes.

Gottokondo · 20/07/2018 08:42

Go for very well made. Accesoires that match the outfit. Shoes are important to the look. If your legs aren't fab then don't go for too short (I live in Amsterdam and see so many brits wearing too short skirts over short or weighty legs, it's like a british uniform).

polyhymnia · 20/07/2018 10:24

Agree with PPs. It’s really hot in Paris at moment. No need to buy anything special - just wear what you’d wear to lunch in a town restaurant here.Don't think French women will be dressed up in cocktail type dresses for Saturday lunch/ brunch - more something very relaxed and simple.
