Three day capsule wardrobe to Paris!

I am travelling with hand luggage only, so need two lightweight changes of clothes. I’m happy in London to wear skinnies, a soft blazer and my trusty white Stan Smiths, but I don’t want to look like a scruff bag in Paris... I will be walking a lot so will need comfy footwear and a smart rucksack.

Can anyone recommend what they would take with them? We’re going in early Autumn. Thank you so much!

Paris was surprisingly casual and you'd be fine as you are but if you want you can swap the jeans for skinny trousers in plain colours as that's what many women wear .
Skinny trousers , loose tops in natural fibres , flat ballet pumps or flat loafers / brogues , very minimal makeup ( if any ), shiny hair , tidy nails .

Hijacking to ask where you would get the skinny trousers in plain colours (that are comfortable) for my next trip to Paris of course!

Pinterest is great at these www.google.com.hk/amp/s/www.pinterest.com/amp/mrsanitao/city-break-capsule-wardrobe/

But for city breaks I'd start with shoes - comfy walking ones and still comfy night time ones ( I always end up walking around at night in a new city!) then work
from there.

Thanks guys. I think it’s the shoes I’m stuck on most! I’d like some good quality loafers but not sure where I can find some that are sturdy enough for miles of walking.... any suggestions?
Will check out Pinterest link.

If you are coming to Paris in the near future it is bloody hot here and likely to stay that way. Otherwise yes, casual is fine but comfort is paramount as you plan to walk a lot. Cool layers and trainers or whichever shoes you have that are the most comfortable. Have a great time and my recommendation is Pere Lachaise cemetery which is beautiful :-)

Ionlylookatthepictures · 18/07/2018 15:52

Thanks sunshine. I’m coming over in Autumn, so hopefully not too hot. I’d love to visit Pere Lachaise - thanks for the tip Wink

(In fact we’re staying just down the road from it!)

I’m in Paris right now. Depends on how long the hot weather lasts.
Lots of women wearing floaty skirts / dresses to make sure they are covered up for the churches.
Your uk clothes are fine. But make sure your shoes are comfy. I’ve done 15,000 steps today, about 6 miles.
I wore Birkenstocks. In other seasons I’ve seen Parisian women in New Balance trainers and jeans etc.

Thank you... so a pair of Vejas or Stan Smiths won’t be looked down upon Wink

I don’t know why I’m investing so much thought into this as I don’t really think twice while in any other European city. I think it’s the baguette thread... everyone sounds so chic on there! Grin

I was like this the first time I visited Paris in my twenties, desperate not to stand out as a scruffy Brit. It was mid-winter so I bought a new coat and wore a smart hat (I realise I sound like something out of a 1940s film). I must have fitted in as five people stopped to ask me directions!

Now I just want to be comfortable so Stan Smiths it is.

sunshinesupermum · 18/07/2018 16:46

Autumn is a perfect time to visit! Layers then and an umbrella (just in case) Have a wonderful trip.

I live in Paris.

October is usually lovely, weather-wise. I would wear either loafers, ankle boots or smart-ish trainers such as Converse or Superga during the day. Something comfortable to walk around in but which doesn't look like sportwear. Bring a pair of ballet flats for the evening if you plan on going anywhere smart (or smart-ish ankle boots would double for both day and evening).

Clothes-wise I would bring a smart-ish pair of jeans (black or indigo), a couple of tops, a lightweight jacket (a blazer, leather jacket or trench coat would be ideal) and a floaty scarf. A dress and opaque tights for the evening if you like.

Less is more. Smile

Thanks so much guys, this is brilliant advice!

Can't believe I wrote "smart-ish" three times. Blush

In case you didn't get the message, aim for "smart-ish". Grin

Cheers LoveinTokyo... are you quite sure? Grin
