Any fashion you swore you'd never be caught dead in but have succumbed to?

I got Birkenstocks today. Fugly, fugly, fugly but appealing because of it (I love Fly London so it figures). Never thought I would own some but they're purple so I couldn't resist!

Also leopard print. I always thought of Bet Lynch, Liz McDonald, Pat Butcher or Kat Slater. Now I have trainers, a coat, t-shirt, blouse, boots and handbags. I love It!

Are there any fashion items or fads you've bought into despite your better judgment?

Coulottes! I bought my first pair this month from New Look anddd they aren't all that bad! Actually very flattering.

They have definitely grown on me.

Birkenstocks - they are just so darn comfy.

FashionFoodLaughs · 18/07/2018 10:02

Cropped flared jeans - bloomin’ love them and really suit me

leccybill · 18/07/2018 10:03

Skechers

But, oh, the comfort.

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/07/2018 11:23

Uggs here too. My mum gave me some she bought for herself then found too slippy to wear outside, and I wore them as slippers until they actually fell apart. I now have the Costco knock-off version. They are so cosy, and perfect for nipping out with washing, bins etc.

il0vew1ne · 18/07/2018 11:28

crocs the clog type - sooooo comfy

BettyBooHoo · 18/07/2018 12:18

Another leopard print convert. Have scarf, cross body bag and ankle boots. Don't wear them together though, I'm not a loon.

HD brows, oh how I used to laugh at all the teens with their Sharpie brows. Then had mine done (albeit a more toned down version) and Iove them. Love them I say. My whole face looks lifted and like it's back in focus again.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 18/07/2018 13:25

Skinny jeans - I have spent years hating the look of skinny jeans. I wouldn't say that I'm a convert, but I do have quite a few pairs.

I haven't worn shorts since I was a child and I have just ordered some. It's not so much because I don't like shorts - I think shorts look great and they are obviously incredibly comfortable during summer, but because some shop assistant once, while helping me select/buy a skirt, told me that my legs/knees were terrible and I should wear longer items to cover them.
My knees are completely normal - the only problem is that I've been hiding them for years because I was convinced by comments made by a stupid woman who wanted to inflict her own issues on me.

Not fashion, more beauty but how I love my Botox. I used to think it was the hallmark of plastic looking actresses and reality stars but now I wouldn’t be without it. It lifts my droopy eyes and makes me look fresh and awake.

Deathraystare · 18/07/2018 13:48

Sadly believed i would look good in skinny jeans - yes if you like the 'sausages bursting out of their skin' look. Plus made my legs ache. Not sure it was good for my circulation!

Sickenedbyguilt · 18/07/2018 13:55

Adidas sliders. They're comfy and they do actually look smart Hmm

rightknockered · 18/07/2018 14:35

flares
came print cargo pants
cropped t shirts
gingham
Leopard print.

rightknockered · 18/07/2018 14:35

camo print

Racecardriver · 18/07/2018 14:54

Skinny jeans... Eventually the only choices were skinny or boyfriend so I accepted skinnies.

mmmgoats · 18/07/2018 15:15

Birkenstocks here too. Yes they look ugly, no they do not flatter but legs but god they are so comfy i do not care. Already eyeing up a second pair and considering burning all other shoes

wizzywig · 18/07/2018 15:22

Patterned summer trousers. Damn comfy but i look like im wearing a pair of curtains

OkMaybeNot · 18/07/2018 15:27

Leggings.

I think gaining 100st a few pounds helped with that decision, though. Finding jeans that fit a huge arse and small waist is no mean feat.

TodoDoingDone · 18/07/2018 15:45

3/4 sleeves. Hated them when first saw them in 1990s. Quite like them now.

CointreauVersial · 18/07/2018 16:06

High-waisted jeans.

I'm old enough to remember them the first time around in the 80s, and for ages thought they looked awful and dated to me. Funny how seeing them everywhere makes you realised YOU'RE the dated one.

MrsSpenserGregson · 18/07/2018 16:21

Skinny jeans worn with stripey tops. I love this look, along with about 50% of the adult female population, but resisted it until about a year ago as I didn't want to look like everyone else. Now I don't care.

Jumpsuits / playsuits. Love them but always swore that I'd never be seen dead in them. I now have quit a collection which I'm obsessively adding to

Day dresses with sneakers / trainers or pool slides. I thought this was the preserve of the Insta influencer cool urban woman - which I am sooo not - but actually I don't care, it's comfy and practical and I have now thrown away all my high heels and will only wear comfy flats for the rest of my life!

Blazers with jeans. Kill me now, but I love this look (and I also loved it in the 80s, then hated it until about a year ago). In my defence, I'm well over 40.

Hoppinggreen · 18/07/2018 16:23

Like loonoon flying squirrel suit

YouWereRight · 18/07/2018 18:07

That yellow/orange eyeshadow shade that started with the subculture palette and is now ubiquitous.

AnnabelleLecter · 18/07/2018 18:51

Yy to Uggs couldn't have survived last winter without them.
Trainers that aren't for the gym, I've finally found a pair I love for every day.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 19/07/2018 19:44

Skinny jeans for me too. It’s still not my preferred shape for jeans - I like a flare. It was getting more and more difficult to find anything else on a budget though and I eventually succumbed.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 19/07/2018 21:30

Dresses!

I lived in jeans or trousers until my early thirties, when I discovered the joy of the dress. I’m incredibly lazy, so it’s great to be able to fling on a single item and be fully dressed. No faffing. I rarely wear anything else these days —other than my PJs—.

FedUpWithBriiiiiick · 19/07/2018 21:35

High waist jeans and harem trousers.
