Help for ageing hair

Hi. For as long as I can remember my hair has been oily. Now I guess due to age and colouring it has become very dry and frizzy at the ends and sides of my face. I guess because under the dye it is really grey (ulp). Because of an itchy scalp (no dandruff) I have been using gentle shampoos and conditioners. The garnier oat milk one seems to be ok but in this heat my hair gets really crispy. I have tried Klorance leave in Mango butter conditioner but seem to have left this at my Aunt's. I also tried vitapoint but I wonder if oils will help?

Anyone??

Try coconut oil which works very well for many people.
Try co- washing, it’s really good for parched hair.
Spend a bit of dosh if you can afford to on a luxe range like Phytology or Aveda.
Take biotin and eat plenty of good fats.

Oh and try going silicone-free. Silicone build-up can really knacker your hair.

My hair is also suffering, it hates the sun! I use, and like, both the Klorane and Vitapointe also Cantu leave in and Nuxe Huile and Eliz Arden oil - my mop just soaks it up. Recently used Hask hair mask argan oil one which is pretty impressive, V nourishing.

Thanks ladies - I knew I could count on you! What is co washing - is it where you use conditioner first or just wash in conditioner?

I do try to avoid silicone.

Which Aveda shampoo and conditioner can you recommend?

Have you tried any serum? Tesco do a fab one in a neon pink bottle for only a pound.
I swear by Argan oil.

ARe you getting allergic to dye? Could that be the cause of the itching?

I would probably advise having all the coarse stuff chopped off and then upping flax oil in the diet.

What dye do you use?

Read good things about Drizziak, but cannot say I could endorse it personally.

My hair used to be greasy and fine. As soon as I turned 50 it became dry and like straw.

Philip Kingsley Elastisizer is amazing. I slap it on and it’s transformed my hair. It’s now shiny and smooth!

Try the OGX coconut oil spray (sold in many shops e.g. Boots, Superdrug, Tesco) on damp or dry hair. It's pretty light but if you find it too oily then there's also an even lighter coconut water spray in the same range too.

Morocco Oil intensive conditioner in the turquoise semi spherical tub is also amazing for very dry hair, even better than the original Moroccan oil product (which is also excellent).

Try to get to the bottom of the itching, though: that doesn't sound good.

haverhill · 17/07/2018 20:36

You use a preferably silicone- free conditioner instead of shampoo. Massage into scalp thoroughly, loads of rinsing. Cleans without stripping. Even works on my dead straight, thin hair.

To answer a few questions - home dye either done at home or taken to a salon. No I don't think it is the dye (use different ones), plus mum had the same trouble with her scalp and stopped dyeing her hair in her late 30s (much to my annoyance).

Don't like Dove hair care or the Aussie hair stuff (that really left my hair crispy!)

Thanks for the other advice too.
