Prescription sunglasses

treaclesoda · 16/07/2018 09:26

I need prescription sunglasses, but I really want them as cheaply as possible because realistically they won't be worn very much.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I get my day to day glasses from a local independent optician and ordinarily I prefer to support that business, but it would be at least £100 from there and I can't spend that on something that I'll hardly wear, particularly as my prescription keeps changing.

Thanks

Tk maxx has lots of brand name optical frames for a fraction of the cost. You can always order them online (and return to store when they don’t fit) and get the lenses done at your optician’s.

Asda - £45 for value, or £80 all in, inc varifocal or thinning

Specsavers have some very good value frames.

I have prescription frames and I wear them much more than I thought I would esp in the spring/ autumn for driving when the sun is low. My glasses are a couple of years old and my prescription has changed but I didnt bother updating my sunnies, no probs as yet.

I only paid £80 for my varifical Raybans from my independent optician. I wear them every day

You can get lenses replaced in existing frames if they are in reasonable condition. You could get a classic high quality frame like PP's Raybans which should still look fine in several years and withstand a few reglazes. (If you have small kids that grab glasses, boisterous large pets or sports hobbies that mean frames are likely to get broken this may not make sense though.)

My trick is to buy good quality sunglasses and then get them reglazed by one of the online companies.

By good quality I don't mean brand, but I check that they have strong hinges and preferably metal all the through the arms even if plastic. Also pick frames that are thick/strong enough to take a thicker optical lens (which the tint will also help disguise).

I often buy from TK MAXX and then send them off to reglazemyglasses.com!

Glasses direct I got two pairs of distance glasses one normal and one tinted antiglare lense for £45
