I have a big even at the end of August. I’m coming up to 40 and looking and feeling it! Can anyone help me to put together a bit of a plan to make me look a bit brighter before then please?

Have a look at the ordinary products (particularly the anti aging stuff), get your eyebrows waxed, hair done by a hairdresser, nails painted and have a look at Russian eyelash extensions....
Enjoy your do!

Any recommendations for anti aging products? Have looked at The Ordinary but I don’t even know where to start with it all Blush

Agree with eyebrows and perhaps a hair colour to refresh your look.

This cheat sheet is a good starting point.

You don't have much time but regular facials manicures, pedicures, eye brow shape and lint, lash tint/LVLs, waxing/threading, spray tan, drink lots of water, eat well and exercise to get a lovely glow. Get your hair and make up done professionally on the day - a good MUA will be able to take 10 years of you, and you'll look fabulous in all the photos.

Ponds Rejeuveness face cream is amazing, cheap too, really makes a difference. That used with L'Oreal's cell renewal face oil have worked wonders for me.
Rubbing Vaseline into nails before bed (tip I got on here) makes them very strong and look like they've been buffed.
Weekly hair and sheet face mask (garnier moisture bomb ones are good) or more than weekly if you can be bothered.

Meant to say the Hask hair masks are great, I use the Keratin one as I bleach my hair, but one of the others might be better if you have fine hair.

Have your brows professionally shaped + LVL lashes + instant eyelift.

Have a professional blow dry on the day.

Teeth whitening makes a subtle but strong difference.

Optrex Blue eyedrops to make your eyes sparkle.

Rather than put expensive stuff on your skin you'd do better to do the following:
a) stop smoking
b) stop drinking
c) sleep more
d) eat more fruit and veg, lose weight if you are overweight
e) do min 150mins cardio a week plus 2 sessions

If it helps I'm approaching 50 (but no sign of menopause) and people aged 40 are starting to look young.

Olaplex treatment would turn back time on your hair. Needs to be done in a salon though. Redken heatcure hair masks are very good for a home treatment if you get dry ends.

Skyn eye gel patches are an excellent temporary fix for brightening and plumping the area under your eyes. Put a packet in the fridge and use them for 10 mins before doing your make up. They're brilliant.

Look after your hands and nails with a cuticle oil (I like Essie apricot oil and burt's bees lemon balm) and a hand cream. The red top neutrogena Norwegian hand cream is unbeatable imo and hand chemistry pro repair hand cream is pricey but very very good at making your hands look brighter and smoother.

Count is right about the lifestyle changes. They make the biggest difference. I'd add cut out refined sugar to the list. That has quite a dramatic effect on my skin.

Skincare wise you're not going to make any permanent difference in the time you have unless you get non-surgical cosmetic procedures done like Botox etc and I wouldn't do that in a hurry without fully researching and thinking about it. You're better off, at this point, in focusing on hair and make up with things that give an instant boost like face masks or primers.

Tbh, a hair trim, treatment and blow dry, a fresh manicure (you could do that yourself) and your outfit will be enough to make you feel more confident and fresh.

That said- about the skincare- switching to a cleansing balm and removing it with a warm flannel would give you a glow. I love the Emma Hardie mornings balm but the body shop, Superdrug and boots do them as well. Have a search on here for 'hot cloth cleansing'. There's been threads about it that you might find helpful,
