I hate wired bras but need a bit of lift, any suggestions?

I have loads of wired bras and find them all uncomfortable so I wear non wired sports type bras.
I’m quite small busted, 36B but I still need a bit of lift and shape which obviously the sports type doesn’t give.
Any suggestions for shape enhancing, padded or gel filled but non wired bras, if such a thing exists?!

Freya Deco has a non-wired version that gives good lift for a soft cup. But sure about the 36B? Have you done a bra fitting recently?

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 14:27

katharina thanks for that I’ll take a look. I havent had a fitting for a while, should probably get measured again.

Marks and sparks have loads of non wired and bra lets

Try them on first and make sure you get the right size as you need them snug to work but not too snug

Non wired straps are very wide so not always a good option for camisoles etc. The bra lets have thinner straps and look nicer obvs.

I am an e cup and they provide good 'lift' Grin

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 14:36

Thanks baum I’m going to pop to m&s and have a look.

These are the most comfortable bras I have ever worn. padded cups and the lift is pretty good (I'm a C cup and not as perky as I once was)

Don't get measured in M&S! They will put you in too big a back and too small a cup (because they use the outdated +4" method, for reasons best known to themselves). Go to a Bravissimo or measure yourself following method [[http://thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.com/p/fitting-advice.html]] or the Boob or Bust facebook page. You will probably be a smaller back and bigger cup than you think, but you will be so much more comfortable! You could search the many bra intervention threads on here for more info too.

Messed up that link, should be:

I'm a 28/30G normally who doesn't get on with underwires very well and I swear by the Freya Deco wireless. It's virtually all I wear when I'm not breastfeeding.

I also suspect you're not a 36B and second the suggestion above about going to Bravissimo or measuring yourself properly at home. Good luck!

rememberatime · 12/07/2018 15:22

Tesco do a really nice range of non wired padded bras. I bought 3 because they are so comfy and flattering. Also they come in pretty shades of pink and blue. I chose a larger cup to get the best fit.

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 16:25

yec I love peacocks bras they are very comfy.
blue thanks I’ll have a look and re-measure myself.
queen out of curiosity your the second person to question my 36B measurements, is that an unusual size or something? I’ve been this size all the time!
remember I’m off to Tesco later, I’ll have a look.

bluebiro · 12/07/2018 17:45

Under M&S style measurements, it’s not unusual, but in proper measuring it’s fairly uncommon - it would mean measuring 36” below the boobs and the measurement around the boobs being just 2” more. Not impossible, but not common.

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 18:03

I’ve just measured myself on the boob or bust site - it says I’m a 28E!!

It might also turn out that underwires are now perfectly comfortable!

I was a 34c my whole life till it turned out I was a 30e. And now I can run for a bus without holding my boobs, which I couldn't when i was 18...

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 18:22

But how can I be an E when my boobs are like fried eggs!!

OP posts:
bluebiro · 12/07/2018 18:40

Give it a try! We have been always given the idea that anything over a D is huge, but it really, really isn’t! Remember it’s a starting point, so it’s worth trying sized around that & different styles to be sure of what fits.

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 18:46

blue it’s weird isn’t it? I’ll have to get me head round that one. I’m quite looking forward to trying on the new size and hopefully after all these years, I’ll find a bra that’s comfy!

OP posts:
QueenAravisOfArchenland · 12/07/2018 18:50

I used to wear 34B. When I got properly fitted I was a 28E. Explained why my bras had ridden up my back for years. I always thought I had small boobs, but they looked less small in a bra that fitted.

sheepysheep · 12/07/2018 19:25

I also thought I was a 36b and didn’t like wired bras because they always dug in / gave me quadraboobs /sideboobs. My boobs aren’t very big and look pretty sad after BF two babies for a year each. I treated myself to a fitting at Rigby and Peller and was astonished to come out of there with a 30E wired bra. It’s the most comfortable - and flattering - bra I’ve ever had. I could sleep in it, it’s so comfortable. And it actually makes me look as if I have nice shaped, bigger breasts :-)
The only other time I was measured was at M&S - 38A!!! At R&P the lass didn’t even use a tape - she just had a look at me and fetched half a dozen bras, all of which were a perfect fit.

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 19:36

That’s great I’m really looking forward to trying them on now, I hope it’ll give me a better shape too. Just goes to show how many women are out there struggling in discomfort all day in totally the wrong sizes!!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 12/07/2018 19:39

28E can be hard to find. 30DD is a sister size and may be easier to find. (32D, 34C and 36B Are also sister sizes I.e. same cup volume with different back sizes)

Snowspeckledeyelashes · 12/07/2018 19:45

Thanks for that demented that’s good to know, I’ll keep that in mind.

I find the shock absorber bras really comfy and very strong with no wires. Good support for me even with my sad milked-three-children boobs They are a sports bra but don't look like the tank tops some sports bras resemble. Well the ones I have don't anyway. I've not bought new ones recently.
