I am going to 2 gigs in the next few months - which is nothing reAally - I used to go to 2 gigs a week 15 yrs ago!! But that is the point I am feeling a little bit past it - I have such a pathetic litle social life since leaving london and having baby no. 2 last year. I am having a total wardrobe crisis and no money to speak of to buy much new - but I am a little unwilling to opt for jeans, band t-shirt (not the band we are going to see of course that is bad form)and docs. That is so early 90's and I am a (soon to be) 33 yo woman.

What is the dress code for north london gigs these days? Can anyone give me some tips?? I want to look at least a little bit like I have a life

The gigs are brian jonestown massacre and then sonic youth so it won't be a crowd of teens i need to blend in with but muso's mainly

enjoy the gigs (I know they're not for a while yet though)

I went to see Embrace recently (not v rock n roll i know) and wore straight leg jeans rolled up a little (not skinny), with black buckle boots and a black funkyish top. I think it's all about the accessories (studded belt, chunky silver necklace (Tiffany!) and did my hair for once. Can't compete with the 20yr olds (they all look the same anyway) as am 37, but didn't feel out of place.
Can't beat classic jeans, black top combo xxxx

Or maybe a funky dress over jeans???

Hi
I and DH also started venturing back to concerts and festivals in the past 2 years. I think wear what you are comfy in, I wore jeans, loose top, comfy but trendy-ish shoes and my favourite jewellry. I find, (being short, wedge shoes are great, so if we are standing, I can actually see! We went to see Morrissey, Muse, Richard Ashcroft and also went to the IOW and V festivals. I survived (aged 45) without feeling frumpy or out of place.
Hope you have a great time.

thank you for all the answers here - I think yesterday after looking at the wasteland that is my wardrobe I had a crisis of confidence about going out - at all - and because I know about these gigs well in advance I have plenty of time to worry about them. The important thing is going out with dh and without dc's - in the evening - like a grown-up...

I can't wait to see the bands esp Sonic Youth so it will be well worth it.

Prebabies I used to be a bit of a trend setter (amongst my small circle of friends) - now I opt entirely for practical clothes that don't show up stains easily and I just wanted to get away from my jeans uniform - but I will find a look I am happy and comfortable with - at least I have plenty of time to try on every item I own.. skinny tees are probl'y out due to enormous norks and slight babybelly but the right underwear can work wonders

This t-shirt from Topshop, with jeans, lots of eyeliner, good pair of trainers/ballet shoes/boots. Most important thing is the eyeliner, innit. Don't wear anything posh - you will recall, very quickly, how drunk people spill beer on you at gigs, and how you leave the place reeking of other people's armpits, and fags.

I'd go with jeans and a plain vest top. Heeled boots make legs look skinnier but could kill your feet or ankles by the end of the night.
