Do you 'model' at your local hairdressers?

Pre-kids, I used to get cheap/free haircuts & colour at the Vidal Sassoon school which was great but took half a day for each.

Just occurred to me to try 'modelling' at one of the local places, but wondered what it would cost and whether they'd insist on 'restyling' me?

i wanted a shortback and sides pob and coloured it cost £5 and what lovely results

burek · 27/05/2007 12:55

I've done it a couple of times and haven't walked away looking drastic! I think they sometimes do it so that new/trainee hairdresser's can build up a new client base, as well as practice on you.

kittypants · 27/05/2007 13:03

i used to have my hair henna=ed a lot by new staff at local hairdressers for free.
posh one in bath did beutiful job for £5 although it took 5 hours.i dont think theyd do anything youd not be happy with.worth asking about it.

Hideehi · 27/05/2007 13:03

I would in central town somewhere posh but not the local shampoo and set brigade, tbh even the best stylists in those places tend to be very average, I dread to think what the juniors/trainee's might do.

tony and guy are good.

archiesmummy · 27/05/2007 13:35

Oh, can I jump on this thread and ask a questions please?
With risk of looking like an idiot, is it just a free/cheap haircut/colour done by a trainee? They don't actually want models?

Sorry if these are silly questions, but I always feel a bit scared they are gonna say I'm not good enough at my local T&G

Dogsby · 27/05/2007 13:36

i did and had some photos taken as a moody teenager.
i look shit

Bectheneck · 27/05/2007 13:45

They usually just need people to practice on rather than be 'models' as such. You should allow at least double the amount of time you'd normally spend at the salon. They can only get their speed up with experience.

Local colleges can be a good idea if they have their own salon and especially if they do beauty treatments as well! The students are very closely supervised and you can be pampered for a fraction of the normal cost.

franch · 27/05/2007 14:10

Yes archiesmum it just means you let them practise on you. As bec says - v closely supervised. The results I had at Vidal Sassoon were great - but slooooow. Hmm. I probably just dont have time for this any more. Just wanted to save some money!

You could go to a hairdressing college place. In Cardiff the college had it's on salon & it was much cheaper for cuts & colours & you could have a trim if that was all you wanted, so there may be something similar near you?

Blondilocks · 27/05/2007 17:18

When I had mine done it was actually much better with a trainee than with a qualified one!

Also most of them at the time were pretty much finished so within a few months would have been let loose in salons!

Oops, not sure y it posted twice

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2007 17:21

I have mine done at Toni and Guy's as often as they will have me

cut is either free or £10 depending on how much they need people, and colour is at least half price. You still get all the things like poncey coffee, sit in the salon watching trendy people march about, blow dry etc etc

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2007 17:21

sorry should have said "colour is discounted by at least half"

Mercy · 27/05/2007 17:24

Franch, I used to go the Vidal school when I was a teenager!

Have done it locally too. Almost as good ime.

Dogsby · 27/05/2007 17:33
