Dry cleaning

I saw a dress today and instantly fell in love and bought it. On checking the label it's dry clean only and quite frankly I don't have the time or money to take 1 dress to the dry cleaners. Have any of you done a cold hand wash on this fabric? Is it too risky? Or do you know where I could find a similar dress?

As an ex dry cleaner I will tell you that you can indeed wash lots of d/c only stuff. The reason they put that label on is a lack of testing so they put the onus on the dry cleaner to take the risk . Or they hope they owner won't clean it and therefore-reduces returns .
If you took that dress into a dry cleaners they would probably charge you a lot because of the colours . Having said that the colours must be colour fast because of the combination .
I'm not good so much with the names of materials as I need to feel the item to know of it would wash but in my experience if you wash anything on a hand wash cycle with delicate liquid it will be fine ..
you need to hang straight away and smooth it out ..

Also a rule of thumb is if you can afford to buy another one it's worth the risk but if not then pay for the dry cleaner to do it .
