This is probably a really stupid idea Re: swim costume

I bought a really lovely lands end cossie, in the sale it fits beautifully on the bust, is a fab colour & suits me.
BUT it’s a bit big/baggy on the bum/top of legs (I have no bum/hips) when I pinched it together at the side seams, where it sits on the top of my legs it then looked fine, so would it be possible to take it in each side? Any idea if this is possible or do I just admit defeat & send it back.

I would never try to alter something unless it was really cheap, or irreplaceable. Sewing stretchy fabric can be tricky.
What about a tankini instead- then you could get the pants in a smaller size...

I was going to give it to a seamstress, as I definitely would make a mess of it, I have a couple of tankinis & do buy different size tops/bottoms.
It just that this is such a lovely fabric & colours & really looks nice on
Just sooo wanted it to fit (stamps foot & has a little bit of a tantrum)
😂

An experienced seamstress could do it.

How baggy? I would be tempted just to live with it. Or I would drink cocktails until my bum got bigger tbh. I realise this doesn't work for everyone but it's the first place I gain weight.

A seamstress could do it. (My daughter did synchronised swimming for a number of years and costumes were constantly being altered with no problems.)

dontcallmelen · 02/07/2018 19:41

Haha at cocktails, it’s definitely a bit too baggy rounds the bum would be afraid that other bits might be exposed 😂
I think I will take it to a seamstress & see what they say, it’s just that it fits beautifully everywhere else & really comfortable, the fabric is thick but really soft.

Thinking back to my nightclass sewing days, I think that swimwear should be done on a 4 tread overlocker machine. Because of the stretch in the fabric. Hopefullly someone who knows more will be along.

Thanks everyone, least no one thought it was a bonkers idea.
