I've bleached my hair and it's really fucking fried

Oh I could cry!!

It's snapping everywhere, I'm afraid to put a brush through it and it just breaks each time I do.

Slept in conditioner last night as soon as I got back from hairdressers but it's still the same today.

Any miracle treatments 😩 I really really don't want to cut it off

Did the hairdressers do it?

Kerastase ciment stuff i have always used when ive done the same to mine. Recommended by the salon that dont even stock it.

BlueJava · 01/07/2018 21:20

Aussie 3 minute miracle!

Raven88 · 01/07/2018 21:21

Did a hairdresser do that to your hair.

Guacamoledip · 01/07/2018 21:22

Apparently coconut oil or any oil really. But I have done this before and I did end up having to cut it off, I did however love my shorter style so whatever happens hope it works out. Also probably would complain if the hairdresser did it and damaged it that badly.

Dixhuitagain · 01/07/2018 21:22

You can buy olaplex 1 and 2 from eBay, I use it for my very damaged bleached hair and it's fantastic.

LuMarie · 01/07/2018 21:30

Another coloured hair blonde here.

Perfect condition for years until hairdresser wrecked it with over bleaching.

I hate to say that once it wrecked, it's wrecked. I tried to keep mine as long as possible, but it just kept breaking, even hair that wasn't so badly damaged, because the slip ends go further up and it will break eventually. So it was miserable because I didn't have it coloured badly again, but for nearly a year it kept breaking. Once enough damage is done, it's done.

I'm not chopping off as much as I can stand, as often as possible.

Coconut oil treatment, yes, Biotin will make new hair grow through more quickly and make it stronger.

I hear good things about olaplaex too, although I haven't tried.

There's a difference between damaged, which is unavoidable with colour or heat, but can be cared for with treatments and good haircare, and broken, which there's nothing you can do about.

I hate it too, I'm really frustrated with mine at the moment because I've been messing around for an extra year with it continuing to break and look worse rather than better.

If it is literally breaking as you put a brush through it, cutting some off is a good idea. Conditioner won't help that, no treatment in the world can deal with that.

Sorry, completely feel your pain here.

Lentilbaby · 01/07/2018 21:37

Olaplex is AMAZING.....coming from experience!

Lentilbaby · 01/07/2018 21:38

Oh and Aveda Damage Remedy treatment is good in between 👍🏼

Bellends · 01/07/2018 21:47

Gelatin sachet, mix to dissolve in hot water, let cool. Apply to hair. Wrap in cling film and leave for half an hour. Rinse lots, then shampoo out.

Then Google snowymoon's moisture treatment and apply that mix for as long as you want. Let your hair air dry don't use any heat.

runwithme · 01/07/2018 21:49

Definitely olaplex. I had brittle, strawlike hair from bleaching and highlights. New hairdresser did balayage and added olaplex -hair felt better straight away. I bought a bottle of it from them and use it once a week now and it's fantastic. It's been five weeks and it's still great x

Glitterandunicorns · 01/07/2018 22:01

Hi OP. I've been in the same position before and used Joico K Pak with great success. Mind, this was before Olaplex was a thing, so this may be better.

I hope you can get it sorted. I remember how upset I was when this happened to me.

PugwallsSummer · 01/07/2018 22:25

Another vote for olaplex, or the L'Oréal version called Smartbond.

Vinorosso74 · 01/07/2018 23:31

I damaged my hair with curling wand usage. When I had last lot of highlights my hairdresser used Schwarzkopf Fibreplex to help prevent further damage. She gave me some freebies of shampoo (not too keen on) and the conditioner which is classed as a "bond maintainer-this was wonderful stuff and really helped my hair. You can buy it online.

NameChangeUni · 01/07/2018 23:43

Get to a salon asap and get as much cut as you can stand, as unfortunately keeping the damaged hair will ruin the rest of your hair as split ends break higher up the hair shaft and you get further breakage. Better to cut now, for healthier hair in the future.

You could use hair extensions until it looks decent again, this will mask the cut/condition.

Definitely complain to the salon - I would expect a free conditioning treatment.

flippinthebird · 02/07/2018 07:37

Yep hairdressers, but it's my fault. He's making me back blonde after a experiment with dark red hair. Using Olaplex 1 with bleach but it's a terrible mess.

I've just treated myself to 1/2/3 Olaplex online, hoping that will fix thing. I've very long hair and really really don't want to loose it :(

I had olaplex in salon when i had mine bleached from blonde yo white blonde so u could go lilac. It was nackered. I ended up cutting it to just past my shoulders and actually loved it.

I would try and have an inch or two off if i were you as others have said that will save it more than any treatment will.

NameChangeUni · 02/07/2018 10:51

If your hair is that long then cutting a few inches off won’t make much of a difference (especially to others). If anything you will look fresher and your hair will look healthier and thicker!

NameChangeUni · 02/07/2018 10:52

Olaplex is fab but it won’t save your hair, it helps reduce damage during processing and it helps to improve the condition - but it won’t be a miracle product that instantly takes your hair back to pre-lightening

bogglepop · 02/07/2018 10:58

A good cut will be the best remedy ! Honestly i've been there probably a dozen times over the years with severe bleach damage.
olaplaex, coconut oil, etc is ok but won't repair it enough if it's really far gone.
No heat either. sorry, I feel your pain

keepingbees · 02/07/2018 11:01

I've done this and I'm sorry to say nothing worked. It improved, but ultimately my hair was stretchy, split, and snapped and broke. I'm still growing it out and cutting it off bit by bit 2 years later :(

RedPandaMama · 02/07/2018 11:06

TRUST ME ON THIS I fucked my hair up while I was a student by bleaching it. The roots were burnt, my scalp red and the last 4 inches of my hair so brittle and dry they would snap off.

Get a tub of coconut oil - Aldi do Coco loco for about £3, or you can get it from Home Bargains etc it doesn't have to be expensive.
Absolutely slather your head and hair in it, then put it onto a bun and sleep with a shower cap on or just a towel covering your pillow etc (it will never come out of bedding!)
The next morning wash out with warm water (not hot), gently shampoo and condition heavily.

DO NOT BLOW DRY. Leave to air dry. It will probably look greasy so put it in a bun or plaits.

I had to repeat twice more until my hair looked good again.

I still do it every so often to refresh and boost my hair. Smile good luck.

Whitney168 · 02/07/2018 11:08

In what way is it your fault? A decent hairdresser should tell you when you are asking for something that will damage your hair, if only for their own reputation. I would be asking him to fix it.

MargoLovebutter · 02/07/2018 11:12

A hairdresser did this to me and destroyed my hair. I was livid.

I went to another hairdresser and they trimmed as much off as I could tolerate and then put a repair treatment on my hair, to try and fill up the broken cuticles, which did really help. They also put some low lights through to break up the horrific peroxide-blonde look.

I used the Pro-voke Intensive Conditioner and found they were really good. I also put a shine product (Bumble & Bumble Brilliantine) on after my hair was dry, again to try and keep it moist and less brittle.

Thebluedog · 02/07/2018 11:13

Have you tried sleeping with coconut oil in?

Lentilbaby · 02/07/2018 11:17

@Whitney168

Totally agree with you. They are supposed to be the experts and ensuring the client has a full understanding of the treatment that is going to be undertaken is essential.

I was baffled by some of the terminology they used....perhaps it's common knowledge to others but I had no idea that 'lifting' my natural colour meant bleaching the f**k out of it under heat 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP I was first upset then angry. I wrote down all the points that I wanted to get across and calmly spoke to the salon owner (a famous chain of hairdressers) over the phone. They actually looked after me quite well after that....free gloss, free Olaplex in salon and to take home.
