Daughter’s skin

Not sure if this is the right board to be asking on, but don’t know where else to post
I have noticed that my 8 yr old daughter has started to get some pretty large blackheads round the creases of her nose and the crease of her chin.
Obviously her skin is changing now, so I was wondering what I should use on her face. Are there any cleansers or other skin care products that would be suitable for an 8 year old?
Not sure what to do and am worried about damaging her delicate skin.
Any advice greatly appreciated

Simple products are known to be very gentle and kind to skin. They do a good range of "oil balancing" products which may help.

My Dd is 12, so a bit older. She does have the odd break out but we’ve found the Superdrug naturally radiant stuff pretty good. They have a Liz earl style cloth cleanser and a selection of different moisturisers.

Lovely, thanks for the suggestions. Will have a bit of a shop about.
Must admit, it’s taken me a bit by surprise.....didn’t think I’d be looking into this for a few years yet!

Sukin products are lovely and natural, very much like Simple but I personally find them more effective. The Palmers oil cleanser is lovely too, makes your skin so soft and clean feeling but I wouldn't recommend it if she has greasy/oily skin all over - its supposed to be good for those skin types but it just feels counterintuitive putting more oil on! Just nothing too harsh or abrasive - don't ever let her get St Ives scrubs, even though they were really popular with teens a few years ago at least.

I’d say the opposite re ‘simple’. They are a triumph of marketing, IMO. Simple skincare is full of the same drying and sensitising crap ingredients as its competitors in the same price bracket.

I’d avoid anything made for ‘teenage’ skin, it’s all too harsh and astringent for any skin type really.

The best thing for blackheads is a BHA (exfoliating acid that cleans out the pore and loosens the sticky black plug). The Dragons Blood pads from NipFab are BHA based, if you used one of those in the areas where she has blackheads, a couple of times a week, you should see improvement. You literally wipe the pad over clean skin and then throw it away. I wouldn’t use all over her face and I wouldn’t use every day (they can be drying and irritating on sensitive skin) but BHA is the best thing for blackheads.

When I was 10 I had the same issue & my mum bought me Clearasil products which helped, including the moisturiser

RedFin · 02/07/2018 12:49

Agree with pp who says no to simple and to general teenage products

Look up Nadine Artemis for advice, she has a company that makes natural plant based products

MissMarplesKnitting · 02/07/2018 12:52

Clearasil etc are way, way too harsh. I have knackered my skin with these products.

Have a look at the Amie range. It's designed for and aimed at young and teen skins, and is gentle.

Took me years to work out stripping my skin with anti oil products just made it worse.

I had a skin condition as a child and was recommended to use phisohex. It's still available

BagelGoesWalking · 05/07/2018 00:48

No to Simple, no to Clearasil and all the other teenage skin/spot and acne treatments. They are far too harsh, particularly for your young daughter and generally so no good as they strip the natural oils and encourage the skin to produce more.

You need to chose the most gentle cleanser. La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser, Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser are In Boots. I was recently recommended to try REN Evercalm Cleanser or Dermalogica - more expensive but you could share!
Dr Sam Bunting has just brought out her own cleanser which is getting very good reviews for being gentle but effective.

DD age 11 is using these morning & night : www.superdrug.com/Superdrug/Superdrug-Essential-Cleansing-Wipes---Fragrance-Free/p/849957

I nick borrow them too & they're really good.

DD also sometimes helps herself to my Liz Earle Skin Tonic or Clarins Iris Toning Lotion & whatever moisturisers I have in my stash or Sudocreme in the tube.
