Help! My face hurts!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 30/06/2018 16:16

So, I appear to be having some kind of reaction to a facial sun cream I used earlier in the week. My face look OK but feels really dry, tight and sore and feels rough to the touch. Anything I put on it now hurts but Nivea cream hurts the least and seems to help when the initial sting goes away so I have been slapping that one.
Please can I have some recommendations of what to put on it now to get some moisture in, and also for some super mild but super effective facial sun creams to use in the future? I have freckles and hyper-pigmentation so need something with as much protection as possible.

Hi. Something v plain and non-reactive. Jojoba oil or olive squalane are good bets. Put it over wet skin.

I use bioderma photomax in the 200ml spray. Very good uva and uvb and for me a great finish so works under makeup.

I'll also sometimes use la Roche posay but only the anthelios XL ones (others have lower uva) but prefer the bioderma.

I have super sensitive skin, eczema, very pale, spots etc.

I have tried lots of expensive and inexpensive facial sun creams. None of them have done the trick. They haven't been a high enough factor, or my skin has reacted badly (painful spots, allergic rashes etc)

The only thing has HAS worked for me is actually superdrugs own brand children's sensitive roll on. It's not specifically for the face but as it's a roll on the consistency is very light. It's non greasy once its properly rubbed in, factor 50 with 5 star uva/uvb rating.

Haven't had any sore skin or any burns using this. It's cheap as chips too and it smells nice.

For now though, wide brimmed hat, stay out of strong sun, use cool water to wash your face. Something like aveeno to moisturise (which doesn't sting even on dry cracked eczema riddled skin)

If it’s still sore it’s worth trying some sudocreme on it, it won’t add any moisture but it might help calm it down

The other thing that might help get moisture in is something very gentle like Avene Tolerance or skin Recovery cream

Put some aveeno on it to soothe it

Take an antihistamine, you may be having an allergic reaction. If it helps, keep taking them until your face feels better.

NB not an HCP, just a person with allergies that affect her face in the same way as your face.

A moisturiser with goats milk might help. I had a horrible reaction on my forehead when I used too many free sample creams on my face once. Goats milk stuff was the only thing that helped with the healing.

Thanks all! It's feeling better today - hardly hurts at all now but still feeling incredibly dry and rough to the touch. I have been carrying on with the Nivea, and also found some coconut oil so have been using that too (though I HATE the smell Envy)

Aveeno is a great shout - it was the only thing that worked on DS's eczema when he was a baby. I will get some tomorrow and also try that Superdrug roll on.

I can't believe how dry it is. Everything I apply just vanishes in seconds!
