In a follow-up to my: is this gorgeous or vile thread... I have another dress I'd love expert opinions on!

I've decided against the Boden orange one I got fabulous advice about in my other thread.

So here is another one I can't decide if is nice, ordinary, frou-frou to the point of tweeness, or just plain overpriced,

It's cotton, which is a HUGE plus.

I want something to wear casually but also for a couple of slightly smarter events this summer, nothing as fancy as a wedding but just nice evening BBQs, parties etc.

I overheat horrendously so cotton a huge bonus.

Can I get opinions on this offering?!

As I said in the earlier thread, I'm 41, tall (5'8) and about a size 10.

I'm rubbish at picking dresses, as I think my threads show, but I have found recently that I love wearing them and feel comfortable and confident IF i get the right one!

Please post your next dress conundrum from the warehouse site OP, we'd love to assist!

JessiCake · 28/06/2018 12:33

Oh dear god, slug, those Emily and Fin dresses are STUNNING!!! And cotton!!! WITH POCKETS!!!!!!!

Or is it just me? I have shit taste, I think.

But heavens, they're beautiful.

Upper, upper end of my price range but I could be persuaded to splurge for something as gorgeous as those.

See, is it just me, or is this lovely?

emilyandfin.co.uk/shop/dresses/florence-bright-floral-occasion-dress

As a high-summer casual party dress, with trainers?

Too Lily Allen circa 2000?

I just love it Blush

Ehhhm. . . it might just be you. I came on to say to look at Warehouse too cause I think there are several on there which would look really good. The thing is though, if you truly love the Emily and Fin one, I'm sure you'll look good in it. It's just a very particular look and perhaps not to everyone's taste.

slug · 28/06/2018 14:14

I have this one

Wildlingofthewest · 28/06/2018 16:26

Lord, that dress is even worse than the first one you posted!!!! Confused

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/06/2018 16:28

I quite like it - the flowers look like those fancy goldfish to me.

BestIsWest · 28/06/2018 16:49

I liked the Boden.

Meh. Boden one was lovely. Am sitting on my hands atm.

Altwoo · 28/06/2018 18:17

The second dress you posted looks like a children’s duvet cover 😁

You’re clearly drawn to colour and pattern, which is great. Have a look at Rixo for inspiration - it’s silly money, but might help refine what you’re looking for.

Never fully dressed also do some great prints: www.neverfullydressed.co.uk/collections/dresses/products/brooklyn

LuMarie · 28/06/2018 18:33

Well...

Do you have particular styles and themes that you like?

Colours, patterns, pattern type, length, showing arms or not, showing cleavage or some skin above or not?

JessiCake · 28/06/2018 19:43

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

Good questions LuMarie.

I like minimalist style, but not Cos. But also I like pattern but not (usually) Boden. I like knee length or midi, but not maxi. I have no cleavage to show Grin. I don't mind showing arms but prefer a v slight cap sleeve to a normal shoudler strap.

I will post a couple of the Warehouse ones I liked and see if I can get the all-important MN S&B stamp of approval Grin on any of them!

OK my enthusiasm for the cotton dresses with POCKETS on Emily and Fin may have blinded me to the fact I was looking at a children's duvet cover Grin but honestly I really love some of the styles on there. Prints are possibly a bit much but I have never worn a prom-style before and it's something I'm finding myself drawn to... Oh, and the pockets of course, there is no dress in the world that is better without pockets in my opinion...

Sooo I quite like this one but would prefer it in cotton (and don't love the fact it shows a bit of shoulder but it's not a deal-breaker)

www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/clothing/dresses/sahara-sleeveless-shirt-dress/031931.html?dwvar_031931_color=86&position=62&cgid=dresses#plpPosition=30&start=62&categoryID=dresses

And I love this next one because it's linen/cotton, but again I'm not thrilled about the shoulders, I like a fraction more sleeve. Not sure about the knot/drapey effect. But I like a shirt dress and I like black.

Sorry, my computer is playing up and I can't link to any more without it crashing everything... I realise those two are wildly different but that's probably because I sometimes enjoy wearing very minimalist clothing and sometimes like to go more flamboyant. But I don't usually wear dresses, either minimalist OR flamboyant.

I love the look of a lot of tea-dresses but most of the Warehouse ones look polyester, which I just can't wear in this heat. Plus although I'm tall and slim I'm quite an athletic build so ditsy prints cant make me look silly, i prefer and suit better a much bolder print (as is probably obvious from the earlier dresses I posted!)

OP posts:
JessiCake · 28/06/2018 19:57

Now, you see, this one that follows is the exact style I'm really in love with, particularly because of that style of cap sleeve and the neckline. However I don't like the print. If this was a plain colour, ideally black or plain navy, or a different print, I'd snap it up.

Nooooo! Link fail. THat one above wasn't meant to be the warehouse one again, it was meant to be this one:

halfwitpicker · 28/06/2018 20:00

The hummingbird one is cute (why does she have socks on tho)

halfwitpicker · 28/06/2018 20:00

I STILL prefer the spotty blue one you posted the other day but I know other folks vetoed it

JessiCake · 28/06/2018 20:04

Altwoo, thank you for the Rixo tip, you're right it's silly money! Thing is though that gorgeous though the dresses are there, the prints are very ditsy and I'm always drawn to bolder prints (I'm talll and athletic shape and ditsy prints just don't work on me.)

That said, this one is lovely, ditsy though the print is. www.rixo.co.uk/product/jackson-daisy-dream/

No idea why she's wearing socks and heels, halfwit... glad you like the hummingbird dress! I adore the shape but not a bird-print fan...!

JessiCake · 28/06/2018 20:44

Wow Discombobulated, that's incredibly ncie of you to go to all that trouble!!! Thank you.

I really like the last one, my only issue with it is if it might be too hot - I'm freaked out by the intensity of the weather and would probably only be able to get away with something very viscosey with a slightly longer sleeve in the evenings. That said, I may order it as I do love it.

The oasis one is pretty but too short, and the first asos one is a bit overly sexy for my taste, with the dropped back... The kmino style one is gorgeous but not quite right (sorry!!!) as it's a bit more fitted overall than I'm looking for... makes it look more formal if that makes sense?

Sorry to be a pill!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your searching to help a total stranger!!

Oh and I don't massively mind viscose, it depends to an extent on the quality of the vizcose if that makes sense? Some feels sweatier than others. I like the drape of viscose, though, and the softness. It's only polyester I can't countenance!!

Lurking

HildaZelda · 29/06/2018 09:53

I don't like that one at all. The Boden one was much nicer.
