Can you return an item on the grounds that it's uncomfortable?

I brought a top from Oliver Bonas yesterday and am wearing it today. Unfortunately, it turns out that the seam on the inside collar really rubs against my collar bone and frankly, my colleagues should be grateful that I'm not tearing it off and stamping on it.

Can I return it? Still have the receipt, but it's not faulty per se. Any thoughts?

Surely you’re just returning it because it doesn’t fit you? It might not rub someone else’s neck therefore it fits them in a way it doesn’t fit you.

I would return it as faulty...seams should not rub so it's faulty/poorly made.

Email them?

It's worth a try. I'd argue that it's poorly designed and unfit for purpose.

I did this last week - returned a pair of jeans because a really thick seam was rubbing. I swapped for an identical pair, same size, same colour. The new pair is fine. I think the first pair was faulty.

Whether or not you'll be successful will depend on the level of customer service your shop has.

OK, sounds like it's worth asking then, thanks all. Really hope I can at least exchange it, don't think I could bring myself to wear it again.

Its faulty so yes you can return it as its fit for purpose ie you can not wear it because its badly made and rubs

I returned a top where they'd put the sequins too far round the sides near the arm holes. To be fair I showed them the horrible rash it had given my arms and they couldn't really argue...

BubblesBuddy · 27/06/2018 23:19

Most shops would agree to this because a seam should not rub and be uncomfortable. Do take it back.

Does the top look faulty when you check the offending collar label/seam?

I’m not sure what your retailer is like or if they’re lenient with returns or not, so it could go either way. I would emphasise that the top is faulty, and see if there’s a new top in the store that they can compare it to. Emphasise that it’s the seams are rough/unfinished so it rubs against your neck in an uncomfortable manner. Let them know if it leaves marks or redness etc.
