Help me fix my thighs

hawleybits · 24/06/2018 18:53

Is it even possible, to transform my 50 something, cellulite dimpled, wobbly thighs, into something I can be reasonably content with?
I could do with losing 10 pounds but I'm not especially fat and I'm on my feet at work. Why are my thighs the only bit of me that's really awful?
What, if anything can I do?

Would it help to have a short consultation with a personal trainer about targeted exercises?

HushabyeMountainGoat · 24/06/2018 19:00

Do you use fake tan? Everything looks nicer with a bit of a tan!

hawleybits · 24/06/2018 19:33

I do use fake tan but usually just from the knees down! I will have to make an effort for our holiday soon but the smell is dreadful! I've just bought the Clarins drops that you can mix with your own moisturiser, which I'm still waiting to test.

I was hoping to not have to go down the road of asking a PT to be honest.

Regular running - try C25k - and body pump classes have both had a very obvious impact on my (similar if left to their own devices) thighs.

skippy67 · 24/06/2018 19:45

Dry body brushing works for me. Also over 50.

Crwban · 24/06/2018 19:46

Dove fake tan is amazing. The older one - available in discount stores like Home Bargains for 1.99! DH and I love it! No streaks and the smell is decent:! Give that a go for starters.

StorminaBcup · 24/06/2018 19:51

Squats, leg raises and lunges. You can find loads of videos of online, this is your best way of getting great results.

MinaPaws · 24/06/2018 20:06

A friend who's always had quite chubby, dimply legs came round one day and her legs looked really taut and slender. She'd just been for some sort of body wrap at the Dorchester hotel. If I hadn't seen with my own eyes how much slimmer she looked I'd not have believed it. She said the treatment doesn't last long, but would be worth having before a holiday, along with a fake tan, if you want to look your best.

Ummmmgogo · 24/06/2018 20:17

my thighs look better when I'm wearing heels. cellulite is the natural way the female body stores fat. we all have it so try and embrace it xx

hawleybits · 24/06/2018 20:18

Loving the sound of a body wrap at the Dorchester, and the dry brushing- why didn't I remember that trick?
I'm very willing to do the squats and lunges too. Off to look at YouTube.

Weights!!!! Only way, tighten up the skin and give shape.

WeeM · 24/06/2018 20:26

Id say a bit of toning up would help, squats lunges like pp said. Try looking at fitness blender site...loads of good exercises that you can tailor to you...and it’s free! And drink loads of water.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 24/06/2018 21:07

I've been doing 100 squats a day (as well as pt once a week) and have noticed a big difference. The knee sag is gone and everything looks tighter. Also exercise bands are good for side squats up and down the kitchen.

Can do about 30 squats + a few rounds of side squats in the time it takes to make a cup of tea.

boxoftoads · 24/06/2018 21:45

Squats
Squats with a band
Weights
HIIT Spin

My cellulite has been transformed since Christmas Grin

specialsubject · 24/06/2018 22:48

cellulite is beauty 'industry ' babble for normal skin texture . fart about with scammery if you want but exercise is a better use of time and far less.dull.

peonylover22 · 24/06/2018 23:01

Squats, lunges, side leg raises. Curtsey lunges are especially good. Add a resistance band and ankle weights if you want to make the exercises more intense. Make sure you do something to work the inner thighs too: lying down squeezing a pilates type ball between your thighs is good.

Hobbes8 · 24/06/2018 23:14

Weighted squats and lunges would be good. I use 5kg dumbbells and that has my muscles good and wobbly after 8-10 reps. Pilates leg and glutes exercises would be good too. Something like this:

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 24/06/2018 23:18

Ummm, what do you do if you can’t do squats? I’ve had a knee problem for years, maintained by analgesics and keeping active. Lots of walking with the dog. Squats are right out, for me.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 25/06/2018 00:07

AuntyJackies I would suggest you get a physio or pt to talk you through the alternatives just to make sure you're doing exercises which suit your situation and to get the form right but if you do some googling ('can't squat bad knees', 'alternatives to squats', 'glutes workout without squats' etc etc) you'll find a lot of options.
I don't know what would suit your knees but you can lie down and work against a wall, use bands etc where you're not supporting your body weight on a bending knee. This is one example: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2t17o4
Here are some mat exercises (around 7m) using resistance bands:

thefirstmrsdewinter · 25/06/2018 00:10

(That first exercise does use body weight obvs, but what I mean is you're not standing supporting your full body weight on knees iyswim.)

MassDebate · 25/06/2018 11:58

Changing to a high protein, low carb diet has almost eliminated mine. It wasn’t expected at all so has been a very welcome side effect!

Luxembourgmama · 25/06/2018 12:13

Squats with increasingly heavy weights and cutting down on junk food

tierraJ · 25/06/2018 12:40

Using the leg press & other leg weight machines at the gym have helped my legs
