DD is going to a uni open day next week and it is supposed to be very warm- 28 degrees!! She was going to just wear jeans and a nice-ish top with some comfy trainers but now she is faceing a bit of a dilemma as it’s going to be so hot. She ownes a few casual summer dresses and shorts but as she is quite tall they all come up quite short on her. We’ve not been to a uni open day before and are not sure if this would be viewed as acceptable attire, so any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated! TIASmile

She can wear whatever she wants. There’s no dress code for open days. Interviews are a totally separate process.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/06/2018 15:41

Absolutrly anything goes, she should just be comfy, especially comfy shoes. There are so many students around no one is going to remember who wore what.

MrsEricBana · 24/06/2018 15:43

Yes no code but I wouldn't say something v skimpy appropriate. Trousers and a t-shirt best.

Battleax · 24/06/2018 15:45

There’s really no need to overthink it or even think about it much at all.

Wear anything. Honestly. Nobody’s taking notes or paying the slightest attention.

Most female students will be wearing short skirts and strappy tops at the moment. There’s honestly no need to cover up.

Saying that, some lecture theatres can be over air conditioned so take a cardigan.

Academic here, who also does her share of open days. It does not matter in the slightest what she wears. There is a lot of bureaucracy in academia, but thankfully not (yet) any process that links university applicants with their open day outfits 😁

Most students just wear their every day clothes. Just what she feel comfortable in. Something weather appropriate

Thank you all for the quick replies, DD happy and reassured she won’t be the odd one out! Grin

Honestly she should just wear what she wants.

No one will give a hoot.

NotARegularPenguin · 24/06/2018 16:05

as long as she doesn’t have her boobs or bum out nobody will bat an eyelid.

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 24/06/2018 16:08

She can wear whatever she wants, it's not an interview it's for her to look around. They won't remember her from the open day so just wear whatever the hell she feels like tbh

Oooh I posted last year (my DS open day) asking should he wear a shirt+tie and the answer was a resounding No.

Jeans and TShirt with trainers.
Jeans are better than a skirt anyway , you don't get that horrible bare legs on a plastic seat experience.
Has she got chino or linen type trousers or even floaty hareemy pants?

(FTR, DS wore jeans, Tshirt and trainers and got accepted. )

One of the students I taught last year had her boobs hanging out every time! It would not even have occurred to me to link that with her suitability as a student. Of course, some academics are sexist, but if I caught a sniff of a student being judged on her looks out wardrobe it would be war. And my attitude is not unusual.

glitterbiscuits · 24/06/2018 16:21

Definitely comfortable shoes or trainers. There's lots of walking!

TantricTwist · 24/06/2018 21:42

It's an open day no one will notice what she wears or even care.
