Can you darken foundation?

I was sold the wrong shade of EL DW foundation. It is far to pale for me and I was wondering if there is anything I can try to darken it up a little?

Thanks

Yes body shop for one sell 'drops' that darken or lighten foundation.
(Autocorrect wanted to change drops to frogs! That would have confuzzled yaGrin)

I just have two on the go and mix them when my skin tone is in between them.

I use the body shop's darkening drops for the same problem with a lancome foundation- it works a treat! But I would still have preferred to be matched correctly....

moreismore · 23/06/2018 20:49

If you were sold the wrong shade I’d take it back... IME they will replace for you.

More I had wondered if I should return the foundation, it's worth a go. Love the idea of the darkening drops, these would be useful when you have a tan.

Darkening drops? You learn something new every day!

The other way round is worse imho, ie, if you buy foundation a shade too dark. In that cases there's really nothing you can do. I've had to either bin or give away foundation when that's happened to me.

But I agree with the other poster that if you were colour matched to the wrong shade, you should bring it back. Posh foundation is expensive, and if you were sold a dress in the wrong size, you'd take it back, would'nt you? Same should be the case here. If not's like you picked up a £10 bottle of Rimmel in a 342 deal at Superdrug. They were providing a service and they didn't do it correctly. I would take it back if I were you.

Primark have those darkning drops as well as lightning.

BlancheM · 23/06/2018 22:21

Illamasqua do mixers to lighten or darken

Cover Fx!

lhastingsmua · 23/06/2018 23:49

I bought the cover FX drops as I used to always buy two shades of foundation (my shade and a tan shade) - this product was much more cost effective. They have a range of shades too so you can get the perfect neutral undertone, so not end up orange

Really happy with it. The only thing is that you shouldn’t add too much product because it’s a heavily pigmented product, so excessive use will alter the coverage of your foundation. But as it’s so concentrated, one tiny drop will be enough to tint your foundation and not alter the coverage

You can darken foundation, but don’t faff around with it - Return it, especially as you were colour matched and it’s wrong. They’re usually pretty good about returns in that situation, because reputation etc.i returned a Clinique foundation the other week because I’d been colour matched wrongly.

On another note, the Cover FX drops are awesome product wise, unfortunately I had to throw mine away as the packaging went funny.

sadieissadie · 24/06/2018 10:50

I have decided to take it back today. I feel a little embarrassed but they colour matched me incorrectly by about three shades too pale. I do like the sound of the darkening drops though, these would be great for when I am tanned. Thanks style and beauty.

MAC changed the foundation for me so I presume EL would do the same.

EraOfTheGrey · 24/06/2018 11:46

I would exchange it. I've exchanged foundation with EL before with no problems at all.
