Mallet toes, how can I wear sandals?

I have hideously bent second toes, partly through them being stupidly long, partly through spasticity from my ms. They cause me a lot of discomfort when walking.

I want to wear medium heeled sandals, but I can't find any with a high enough toe box to accommodate them. Open toed sandals look awful because of my bent digits.

Has anyone had any success with toe splints or similar? Long term I hope to get botox or corrective surgery but I expect this will take ages through the NHS.

Correct toes toe splints are great. I sleep in mine and my shonky feet are so much better for it

Thanks chezbot, do you mean the gel things that go round each toe like yoga toes?

I've just been looking at Fly London closed toe sandals but I don't know if they are too high for me and I'm nowhere near London.

I have similar toes plus ball.of foot ache due to RA
I havent had sandals in years but lived in nike trainers. High toe box and could get my insoles in.

I recently went to an independent show shop who sell a lot of what i thought were old lady shoes. But when i hunted through i found quite a few pairs of sandals that suited. I am v fussy which is why its taken me over 5 years to find sandals but id always been trying to make younger styles from "normal shops" ie kurt geiger, office fit me when my feet are much older than the rest of me.

Anyway they had lots of shoes such as reiker and gabor and i discarded all with fake hessian moulding, beige rubber soles, too intricate stitching or jewels and there were still lots to choose from. There were even a few with velcro toe closures which looked v nice and not at all orthopaedic.

Id had a mental block that i couldnt buy shoes from shops my nan would shop in because i wanted to seem my age and fashionable not like the girl in the orthopaedic shoes. But if you choose carefully there are some lovely styles hidden in there

That shop sounds great ducks, I shop mostly online and I'm not sure if there is anywhere similar near me. I find shoe shopping quite depressing as none of the shoes I like are suitable for me any more Sad

My failsafe shoes are these clumpy round toed Clark's ones. They are comfy and just the right height with a high round toe box. They look a bit daft with skirts and dresses in the summer though!

These are the ones I am thinking about from Fly London. The toe looks quite roomy and the heel a good height- I don't know if I could walk in a platform wedge though.

I'm so fed up of shoe shopping, I've tried so many that I've had to send back or sell on eBay when they start to hurt my toes.

Here is a picture showing one one of my stupid toes. It bends right over so I walk on the toenail!

Yes my feet look very similar.
Its really disheartening and there are sooo many ugly shoes out there. And so many beautiful shoes that dont suit less than perfect feet.

I think there is a definate gap in the market for shoes for "odd" feet that dont look like something my granny wouldnt wear

The fly ones look nice. I think they have a pretty soft footbed too. But i understand the wedge worry

If you can even plan a trip to a "nice" shoe shop that does loads of brands and maybe youll get lucky.

The shop i was in have a website. Www.Reidsshoes.co.uk
