Botox and lip fillers.

What do I need to know about them?

I’ve got thin lips that are permanently pursed as I have serious frowny face.

I’m considering having Botox to stop the frowning whsuch has left me with quite deep and very noticeable number 11s. My foundation gathers in them which makes them look even worse.

I’m also tempted to get a small amount of filler in my lips, too and bottom.

I’m a bit of a wimp though and the thought of needles in my forehead makes me feel squirmy let alone the thought of needles in my lips.

So, can anyone share their experiences with me and tell me the good, the bad and the ugly (and the beautiful) about either or both of these procedures?

Botox only really hurts a little around the eyes (go to someone who uses numbing cream and not just an ice pack Angry)
Lip fillers hurt like buggery and I only had 0.5. Kinda like childbirth though, as I’m now considering going back for a top up Grin

And please please go to a medical professional and not a beautician x

@Ginismyfriendx are you serious? CHILDBIRTH Shock

I'm getting 1ml on Saturday, can't wait! Although you've made me nervous now Grin

Is it worse than tattoos?

Ginismyfriendx · 21/06/2018 19:24

I meant more that you forget how much it hurts and do it again 😂

I’ve never had tattoos so don’t know sorry :(

Ginismyfriendx · 21/06/2018 19:26

Botox is on a par with eyebrow waxing.
And even the lips only hurt when the needle is in, not after-pain lol

MiMr · 21/06/2018 19:29

So does it just feel like getting an injection/ getting bloods taken ?

HyenaHappy · 21/06/2018 19:32

Thanks for the replies. We’re you pleased with the results? I’m worried that my frown lines are too deep.

I also don’t want lips that really stick out IYKWIM. I’d like them to be subtle but not the thin lines that they currently are.

Botox - it’s not a miracle but it does work. And looks better over time. Worked lovely on my forehead and ‘11’s’ but wears off much quicker around the eyes. Be prepared to continue it at least 3 times a year.

Fillers I love, mainly as they last so much longer. Have had filler in lips, cheeks and chin. Fillers have the reassurance as well that if you don’t like them you can get them dissolved, where as Botox you just have to wait for it to wear off.

I like the effect, it’s subtle but effective. My technician is a qualified, experienced nurse and I trust her implicitly. Eg when I asked about lip fillers she advised 0.5 to start with due to having a ‘petite’ face, and she was absolutely right. I think if I had 1mill it would look ‘done’ where as 0.5 has just given that touch more definition. That’s me though.

Ahhh on phone and can’t remember other questions 😂 make sure you get a thourough consultation and remember it’s your face. You don’t bargain with your face, it’s a medical procedure so go to someone who’s medically trained, knows where nerves/veins are, can advise on aftercare, understands the effects (e.g. my cheek fillers were done for my ‘smokers’ marionette lines. A beautician had suggested Botox. When I mentioned that my nurse was horrified that someone would suggest Botox around the mouth. The fillers pull the face up and have completely erased the lines. And cheaper in long run)

Errrmmm bit of an essay and still can’t remember what you asked Grin

Ginismyfriendx · 21/06/2018 19:48

Ahh... ok. Not so much like blood being taken as it’s more short sharp pricks Grin more like tweezing hairs I suppose (Botox)

Fillers are more throbbing as the needle is in longer

I've had Botox twice, I love it! I've had it in my forehead, my scowl lines and near the eyes. I've also had a tiny bit in my chin to relax my overactive chin muscle. I've gone from looking like someone that's had a hard life and in a bad mood about it to someone 'softer' and much more relaxed.

I don't think it hurts and I'm mega soft, the needle is so fine I had to squint to see it, and anyway as soon as it's in it's out. I didn't have any numbing cream for the Botox as it can interfere with the result. But you won't need it, it's fine.

I've never had lip filler (scared), I have thin lips but my friend recommended Dior addict lip maximiser, it's about £25 a tube but it's gorgeous and it works just enough for me.

Back to Botox - the good stuff... I used to spend a lot of time (and cash) on my make up but now I only use a little CC cream, mascara and the Dior I mentioned. My OH has not once asked me 'what's wrong?' since I started using it. People (who don't know I've had it done) say they like my hair Confused Grin. I don't wince when I look in the mirror. I don't see my dad in drag staring back at me when I look in the mirror.

The bad stuff - I think it can be addictive, maybe even a slippery slope for some. That's why it's important to go to a good place, find someone that you can trust, someone who really cares about what's best for you, someone you can be honest with and they'll be honest back. Avoid anyone in it for the cash.

Botox doesn't hurt and absolutely works. I see a doctor who does it though not a beautician etc.

Hillbillyhotel · 21/06/2018 20:12

Do not be put off! I have Botox on my crows feet and it is just like tweezing pain as a pp said. Lip fillers they numb you with a gel which really works but it will still make your eyes water, absolutely not agony though, just a bit of a wince around the Cupid’s Bow. Properly look into who’s doing it and you’ll be absolutely fine!

BlancheM · 21/06/2018 20:51

Botox feels like literally nothing, I wouldn't know she was doing it.
Fillers can hurt, if you're not good with pain then you could go for the dental block rather than a numbing cream.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 21/06/2018 21:53

I've not had fillers but I'm considering a small amount in my cheeks.

Botox is amazing. I love it.
I'm sure some actually and just cannot wait.
I have it in my 11s and forehead.
My most recent lot lasted well for 5 months and all of a sudden I just look knackered.
It doesn't hurt at all.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 21/06/2018 21:55
  • due some.

Also like a pp I think it can become addictive.
To me I just look tired and dull at the moment, also my makeup doesn't go on as well as it does when my botox is fresh.
