For the first time in YEARS ive got the capacity to treat myself every other month or so to something nice. I’m trying to get out of the habit of buying multiple crappy things from budget lines that don’t really work (still very attached to my budget star performers though).

If you could buy one product, like a cream or serum or mask that was sort of department store / space nk indulgent but more importantly effective, what would it be?

Elemis pro collagen marine cream. Too pricey for me but it is truly wonderful.

Hidingupstairs · 21/06/2018 16:37

Ha, that’s EXACTLY the product I was hovering over!!! I have very sensitive skin though, do you think it’s too rich for that?

Also I had a great skinceuticals serum for very sensitive skin years ago, but can’t remember it’s name - can anyone help?

Elemis cleansing balm, also the marine cream. Have a look on QVC for elemis they often have sets on a special price.

moredoll · 21/06/2018 16:58

Elemis do Hydraboost for sensitive skin. Never tried it myself, but if I were you I'd head back to the Elemis counter, explain you're undecided and ask for samples of that and the marine cream so you can decide which to get.

flippinthebird · 21/06/2018 17:50

Aluminer is absolutely fantastic if you can find yourself a stockist x

flippinthebird · 21/06/2018 17:50

Before aluminer I used Skinceuticals but aluminer is a lot more superior imo x

LuMarie · 21/06/2018 17:53

Estee Lauder!

They have all sorts in the range for different ages and skin issues you want to focus on, the person working there will explain all the choices.

Makes such a difference, I wake up looking good with it and look a lot younger than I am.

I tried la mer (super expensive) but honestly didn't see much difference between that and the Estee Lauder range.

Nanasueathome · 21/06/2018 17:54

Heaven skincare by Deborah Mitchell
I’m lucky that she has her base and salon fairly near to where I live
Gorgeous stuff
I believe Camilla uses it..and I’m sure I’ve seen somewhere that Simon Cowell does too

chajazam · 21/06/2018 17:56

Estée Lauder Perfectionist serum. Or a great nighttime oil. I find if my serum and oil is sorted my moisturiser is less important. And can’t do without Clinique Take the Day off cleansing oil.

Zampa · 21/06/2018 18:10

Eve Lom cleanser. It's amazing! Nothing comes near it, especially not the cheaper cloth cleansers.

Sarah Hardman products are also very good.

3DSpex · 21/06/2018 18:53

Eve Lom cleanser.
Clarin’s facial oil.

LapsedHumanist · 21/06/2018 19:03

Dr Alkaitis Ageless Facial Elixir. Lasts a year with nightly use.
DH calls it “that stuff that makes you glow”.

A Foreo Luna face massager of some kind.
Evolue by Jean Seo gentle cleanser

La Mer soft cream... I tried Elemis and it was fine, but the La Mer feels SO NICE to me. Stupidly expensive though, I may need to put a kidney on eBay...

TantricTwist · 21/06/2018 19:41

La Mer Soft Cream is just the most gorgeous moisturiser I've ever tried but as I didnt purchase I have no idea of the lasting effects.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 21/06/2018 19:50

If you are talking £££ and you're in the south you could look up Rationale-Australian brand who focus on skin protection.

ggirl · 21/06/2018 19:53

Medik8 retinol serum- I don't use it but it has great reviews on youtube

M&S sleep cream- also great , has niacinamide which does fab things for your skin

Nadine Baggot on youtube is a fund of skincare info

tierraJ · 21/06/2018 19:53

I like Clinique smart repair serum.

Hidingupstairs · 21/06/2018 19:58

ohwhat have you tried the rationale line? Just looked it up but it’s all ‘sun protection, sun protection’ but their day cream is only spf15? Is that enough?(I currently use biore spf50)

Ergh j wanted to love eve lom when I tried it fifteen years ago but it broke me out... the cloth is still going strong though!

Just bought a really large trial size of the elemis balm for £7.50 or something in Heathrow t5 so must give it another go.

Yes used to use Estée Lauder serum and loved it, hmm, maybe that’s the one to go for. Can you combine it with salicylic acid toner?

OP posts:
Hidingupstairs · 21/06/2018 19:59

I think the sleep cream might have broken me out. Which is annoying as I agree it is lush!

Madbengalmum · 21/06/2018 20:03

La Mer moisturiser or soft cream, fantastic stuff, but budget busting.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 21/06/2018 21:42

It all depends on using everything in conjunction, Hiding. I've had bits. But everything together-£££. I do know someone who uses it religiously-their skin when they were young was awful, cystic acne, sun damage. They look amazing. Same age as me, looks ten years younger.
(I use biore 50 too)

ThenCameTheFools · 21/06/2018 22:02

L'Occitane Divine Cream would be my choice. Or Neal's Yard Frankincense.

I have just ditched the sleep cream- I wasn't sure it was that when I tried it a month or so back but now I just broke out again after 2 nights.. It's very strongly perfumed and though my skin isn't sensitive to perfume this clearly irritates it.
Marine cream smells divine but is much too watery and lotiony for my skin which is dry.

LuMarie · 21/06/2018 22:09

@Madbengalmum I wanted to try La Mer recently, I use Estee Lauder, the whole set of everything, so I don't mind spending on products but did think wow to the La Mer prices.

So to try it, I searched around and actually found some (new) on eBay. don't usually use it but to try out I figured worth it. I paid around 60 pounds for the 30ml moisturising cream, sealed and new, rather than the crazy 250 or whatever it is. There were a lot at this price. I couldn't find the eye creams, only testers, but plenty of the moisturiser.

So maybe worth a look if you like to use these products? A significant difference in price!

I use a lot of the Estee Lauder and have for years, the whole set of perfectionist serum, eye serum, idealist for pores, the purple one for lines (that one is amazing), then a day or night cream. It's a lot but I like it. I also get about ten years younger as a guess for my age.

I'm not sure it's all my face, hair, style, body shape and just lifestyle can come together for age, but when I compare my face to others my age, I'm doing not too badly.

Madbengalmum · 22/06/2018 11:49

Lumarie, do be careful though on ebay as there are some fake items on there.

dirtyprettything · 22/06/2018 12:41

Clarins for everything

Love the stuff and it never stings my skin

If it’s good enough for the Queen it’s good enough for me!
