Toner at the hairdresser: is it worth it?

Is it worth getting a toner put into my hair for £50? I have been toning and dying at home my whole life, and the hairdresser suggested it, but it seems like a waste of money. What's so special about having it done at the hairdresser?

Watching. I’m going on Thurs am.

Helloflamingogo · 19/06/2018 17:19

£50?! No way!

StoatofDisarray · 19/06/2018 17:35

Helloflamingogo LOL!!! That was my thought, TBH. It's a gloss toner, if that helps. "Ordinary" toner is £15 - 30 with or without colour service (whatever that is).

Is it made of diamonds?

I have a toner after highlights, it's £10 extra (although they rarely add it). Do you know what the product is that they're suggesting?

stoplickingthetelly · 19/06/2018 20:06

Omg £50! If I have a toner it's £15. Seems a lot of money to me.

Welshcake77 · 19/06/2018 20:10

I was all ready to say definitely worth it until I saw the price!!
It really makes a difference for me with my highlights and I love it but it’s not a £50 kind of love!

Twilight456 · 19/06/2018 20:10

Ex hairdresser here, I would never pay 50 quid for a toner! Would pay 15 max. Its only on your hair for a max of 20 mins and fades sooner then permanent colours anyway.

makeupmaven · 19/06/2018 20:11

A toner for £50?!?! I go to painfully expensive salon and it's only a tenner!

somuchunanswered · 19/06/2018 20:46

I’m not sure my hairdresser even charges extra. The assistant asks if she’s to tone it and the manager says yes! I’m never more than £55.

Mumsnut · 20/06/2018 06:53

wots a toner?

Oblomov18 · 20/06/2018 07:07

They put a toner on my highlights anyway, for no extra cost.

CutesyUserName · 20/06/2018 09:39

If you have highlights, buy some Fanola No Yellow shampoo. Best stuff I've ever used and about £9!

lhastingsmua · 20/06/2018 13:28

Not for £50. I pay £20 at a high end salon for a toner including blow dry. Their prices for full colour, tints, bleach etc are much dearer but toners are fairly cheap as it’s a simple service

StoatofDisarray · 21/06/2018 16:35

Thanks for all the feedback! Very much appreciated. I think I will leave it, in that case.

I don't have any highlights (or rather, my natural highlights show through the semi-permanent dye) but my hair colour does tend to get warmer as the ash brown hair dye fades, so I will definitely try the Fanola! Smile

Update: I went for No Orange Fanola in the end, as I am a brunette. Will let you know how it turns out!
