Will Olaplex save my hair?

I asked my (new) hairdresser for a demi permanent colour and he put on Goldwell Colorance plus (so he says). It has ruined my hair. My hair is orange.

I have very fine hair which is why I wanted a demi...I didn't want harsh stuff on my hair. I've been back to see him and he's offered to put it back to my own colour.

  1. I don't want any more peroxide on my hair as it's ruined
  2. I have been using Olaplex no 3 at home but do you think Olaplex treatments in the hairdressers would help this situation?

I asked my hairdresser about this. He said that Olaplex is silicone based so coats the hair shaft making it feel and look very smooth and shiny. It isn’t actually taken up by the hair so doesn’t mend any damage. He said it’s more of a cosmetic treatment than a conditioning treatment. He recommended Keratin treatments if you want to improve the condition. Hopefully some hair professional MNettters can endorse or correct this for you.

I’m no Olaplex expert but there’s definitely no silicone in it.

My hairdresser told me the exact opposite! I had the salon treatment (1&2) about six months ago and use 3 once every few weeks at home. After the salon treatment my hair wasn't that different to look at but it definitely became a little easier to style. Longer term I have noticed significantly less breakage despite having highlights (half head alternating with full head) every six weeks and regularly using a hair drier and GHDs.

Olaplex has no silicone and it does penetrate the hair shaft. It's not a conditioner at all and it's recommended you condition after using it as it works internally whereas most conditioners work externally to smooth the cuticle.

OP - it really depends what is wrong with your hair. Olaplex will repair bonds broken during the colouring treatment and reduce breakage caused by the broken bonds but it won't help with loss of moisture or a damaged cuticle.

Pair it with a really good conditioner like Redken All Soft and wait 6 or so weeks before colouring again.

Where are people buying their olaplex and how are they using it?

Loonoon · 19/06/2018 20:45

Thank you everyone.

You can buy no 3 online from Look Fantastic or a salon stocking it. No 1 and 2 aren't available to the public (you need proof of insurance as a stylist or salon to buy it).

Iirc you apply no 3 to damp hair prior to shampooing and conditioning, and leave for 10-15 minutes or as long as possible.

All three seem to be freely available to buy on Amazon although I wouldn't have a clue what to do with 1 or 2. It's made a big difference to my highly-processed (long, fine, dry) hair and well worth the extra £15 per treatment my hairdresser charges.

I bought something called Low Shampoo from L'Oreal in Boots and it's been great for my hair.

Thanks all for your advice. I think I'll go and speak to the hairdresser about him trying Olaplex treatment on my initially. I contacted Goldwell and they've told me that the hairdresser needs to sort the situation himself.
