unconvinced soap convert, and recommendations for automatic soap dispenser

So I followed the thread of people discussing moving from using shower gel/handwash to bars of soap....I jumped on that band wagon and gleefully spent a lovely time smelling and purchasing beautiful bars of soap in TK Maxx and tossed out empty plastic bottles.

Fast forward a few months and the soap thing didn't work for me in the shower - my skin was just becoming too dry, and I actulayy didn't feel that clean. I persevered with soap at the hand basins, but a nasty bout of novovirus throughout the family last week makes me think it's perhaps not the most hygienic.

I've started looking into the automatic dispenser of liquid soap with a view to using it with liquid soap refills, and it being more hygienic to boot. i know there is a dettol one out there, but you can only use their refills which is a bit limiting.

Anyone got one that they can recommend?

Unconvinced- do you want to be convinced or are you set on going back to the liquid options?
Maybe you didn’t find the right soap for your skin? I’ve tried a few of the (fabulous smelling) huge soap bars in tkmaxx and found them quite irritating and drying to my skin. If you want to give bar soap another try, buy some Dr.Organic soap (available in Holland and Barrett, amongst other places), there are about half a dozen varieties (the manukau honey and the Dead Sea minerals are my favourites), none are drying to my (sensitive) skin.

Agreed - I bought several of those big bars in TK Maxx and I'm not sure they're especially good quality. Some of them have been a bit harsh for me, too.

In the shower, I've got on well with Dr Organic too; also Dr Bronner's. Faith In Nature and Scottish Fine Soaps have some nice ones. I got a Di Palomo fig one from Amazon which was lovely, although it was a bit more expensive.

Can't help you with soap dispensers I'm afraid; I do use liquid soap for hand-washing but I just refill my old ceramic pump dispensers and recycle the bottles. Blush

Sounds like you bought a bunch of perfumed soaps which irritated your skin. Can't help with the soap dispenser thing.
